Possible Scenarios for the Royal Rumble
With the Royal Rumble just 6 days away, things are heating up in the world of WWE. Who will get the ultimate push and secure their spot in the Main Event at WrestleMania? The possibilities are virtually endless. In this article, I will go over a few scenarios, some will be obvious, some will be thought-provoking. Both the men’s and women’s Rumble will be up for discussion and who I can see possibly winning the matches. With the intro out of the way, LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!!!
WOMEN’S ROYAL RUMBLE
I think the Women’s match has another decent shot of being the main event on the PPV, however, I think it has less obvious scenarios, so that is the reason why it is first in this particular article. I am going to break down the favorites first, then I will discuss who I think could shock the world and be the last woman standing at the end of the night.
Becky and Charlotte vs. The Field
As of today, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair are the favorites going into the Rumble match. I know this is about as obvious as the sky being blue, but keep reading please. Becky Lynch is in a title match with Asuka, so this will factor in who will be the odds-on favorite heading into the match. The SmackDown Women’s Championship match will likely be prior to the 30-woman match, so if Lynch regains her title, look for Charlotte to win the Rumble. If Lynch loses, she will be the favorite to win the Rumble, no questions asked. Does that mean she’s a lock to win though? Not necessarily. I’ve seen some people suggesting a dual winner, in this case the two women above would be the last two competitors standing and they would force each other over the top rope at the same time. Personally, I think this is a cheesy way to book future matches, however, in this particular scenario, it would be what the WWE universe wants to see. They want to see a match between these two ladies and The Baddest Woman on the Planet, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey at the main event of WrestleMania 35. Having the two performers touch the outside mat at the same time would be the easiest way out for the creative department for sure, and this isn’t a foreign idea in the WWE. The 1994 Royal Rumble had co-winners when Lex Luger and Bret Hart eliminated each other. If you do the math, that was 25 years ago, and this could be another reason to revive that moment. Luger and Hart went on to WrestleMania X to face Yokozuna for the WWE Championship in separate matches. Luger lost and Hart later became the WWE Champion in the Main Event. Do I think they will have separate matches? No, I do not. I think they will be in the same ring in a Triple Threat match against the RAW Women’s Champion, if they decide to go down this road.
Ronda Loses Title and Wins Rumble?
This next scenario is a radical idea, but I think it could possibly happen. With that being said, Ronda Rousey would have to be defeated in her title defense. Rousey is the largest favorite out of all the matches at the PPV, so it is very likely she won’t lose, but hear me out. Relinquishing her title to Sasha Banks would not be the worst thing in the world. If this happens, this would happen to be Rousey’s first singles loss as a WWE competitor, but I think it would be the perfect time to do it. If she goes on to WrestleMania to the main event, she absolutely will not lose. It just isn’t going to happen. They have too much invested in her for her to lose a title at the grandest wrestling stage of them all. There hasn’t been a great build-up for her match with Sasha, so her losing the title would be a shock to say the least, and not to mention, Sasha Banks and Bayley are the favorites to be the inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champions at Elimination Chamber. If Ronda loses the title, I think that would mean that Becky Lynch regains the SmackDown Women’s Championship, which would also mean that Rousey would enter the Rumble and win, then would announce she is squaring off against Lynch or Lynch and Flair at WrestleMania 35. The main reason I think this is very possible is because of the SmackDown TV deal. They are dying to get Ronda Rousey on FOX every Friday night starting in October. Winning the Rumble is also a career accomplishment that only the best of the best can claim. Adding this accomplishment would be another box to check off on her resume, thus solidifying her growing legacy. I know this scenario is crazy, but it would provide shock factor and that is something that the WWE is in dire need of.
A New Moon
Personally, I think the competitor, not named The Man or The Queen, that has the best shot of winning the Rumble match is Ember Moon. She certainly has the talent, but is she ready for that kind of push? I think so. Since getting called up, Moon has unfortunately been lost in the shuffle on RAW with the emergence of Ronda Rousey. The big question if she wins is if she will go after the RAW or SmackDown title. I think she will go to SmackDown, if she wins. The former NXT Women’s Champion and Asuka would be an excellent match at WrestleMania. I don’t think it would main event the PPV, but it would be refreshing to see a rematch of those great NXT matchups. It’s time for Ember Moon to be considered as a top female superstar and this would certainly be a step in the right direction.
MEN’S ROYAL RUMBLE
Contrary to the Women’s match, the Men’s match has many, many possibilities. There are a couple favorites, but honestly, there’s a shot that they don’t win the match either. The favorites seem to be all on the RAW roster, but is there a possibility of them jumping brands? Expect this match to be the mystery of the night.
Burning Chase Field Down
Seth Freakin’ Rollins is the odds-on favorite to be the last man standing in the 30-man Royal Rumble. He has a new attitude as of late, but is it enough to propel him to victory? It seems too obvious for him to win, but that’s not really a great thing in this scenario. WWE can build you up for one thing and completely change it within a moment’s notice. I personally don’t think Rollins wins the match, but it’s difficult to argue against him at the moment. He had a big win against Drew McIntyre on RAW this week and excluding the match with Dean Ambrose when Bobby Lashley interfered, he hasn’t been losing his matches. He is set up for victory, but then again, keep your eye on a few other competitors. If he wins the Rumble, I could see him going for either title honestly, but I would like to think he would challenge the Universal Champion at WrestleMania. After all, he is Monday Night Rollins.
RAW’s Powerhouses
The powerhouses that I am referring to are Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman, if you didn’t already know. Other than Rollins, these two are the closest to a sure thing. Strowman was revoked a title shot against Brock Lesnar, which led me to believe that he wasn’t cleared for action, however, it appears that I was wrong. Strowman competed in a match Monday night which ended in a DQ against Finn Bálor. Look for Strowman to be a huge player and a likely Final Four participant. The other superstar, Drew McIntyre, is just itching to be in the title picture. He has been a very strong competitor over the past year and a Rumble win is something that could come to fruition Sunday night. If one of these two are winners, don’t expect them to even consider jumping to SmackDown. They’re staying on RAW and challenging the Universal Champ, no questions asked.
Quest for 17?
We received news that John Cena is not likely going to compete due to an ankle injury suffered in the Fatal 4-Way match last week on RAW. I’ve also heard reports that the ankle injury wasn’t real and it was a way to get him out of the match because he already entered his name in the Rumble. I’ve also heard that this is because he is going to be in a new movie and filming is starting within the week. So, it isn’t looking like Cena is competing, but we have to realize we are talking about the WWE. Literally anything can happen and this could legitimately be a diversion tactic. It’s not looking likely, but if he wins, expect him to go after the WWE Championship and claim his record-breaking 17thtitle reign.
If They’re In, They Win
For this scenario, I have two people in mind. The first is highly unlikely, but if he makes an appearance, there is no way he is getting thrown over the top rope. The man I’m talking about is The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment, The People’s Champ, The Brahma Bull, The Great One, IF YOU SMEEEEEEELLLLLLLL!!!! Sorry I got a little carried away, but by the way, I’m talking about The Rock. Like I said, it would be very unlikely, but if he’s in, he wins. I’m predicting he goes after Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, IF he wins. This would be must-see TV to the max at WrestleMania.
The second man, that I have in mind is more likely, but still improbable. This competitor is the 2018 PWI Number 1 wrestler, Kenny Omega. Omega has been in NJPW over the last decade and has made quite a name for himself. For those of you who do not watch anything other than WWE, do yourself a favor and look up some of his matches. He is phenomenal in the ring and has great charisma, in other words, he is an absolute star. He is currently a free agent; however, it is likely that Omega will be going to AEW. I think he’ll wait until after the Rumble to announce his intentions, but there are still a few days until then. This will provide a lot more anticipation for an appearance, wherever he goes. If Omega is indeed a new WWE superstar effective Sunday night, I think he wins the Royal Rumble and goes right after the WWE Championship. This would also be a key move going forward on the SmackDown brand as they get closer to the move to FOX.
