Who is Jon Moxley and What Has He Done With Dean Ambrose?

Before entering WWE in 2011, Jon Moxley was a relatively popular Independent wrestler. WWE fans know him as The Lunatic Fringe, Dean Ambrose. April 21stwas his last match with WWE, or so they say. When WWE announced that he was leaving the company, it just felt weird. First of all, why would WWE put out on their Twitter page Ambrose’s real name mention he was leaving the company? Is it all a grand scheme? Possibly, but let’s look into it a little bit. Here is a match from his early Indie days when he was a hardcore wrester, viewer discretion is advised.

Earlier in the day, around midnight, Moxley sent a tweet out with a video of what appears to be a vignette for some event coming up. There certainly is speculation that he will be at AEW’s Double or Nothing event on May 25thin Las Vegas, which happens to be where he and his wife, Renee Young, currently reside. The video contains subtle clues that may hint to him becoming AEW’s newest addition, but could this possibly be WWE related?

Before sending this tweet earlier today, it was under Ambrose’s name and he never used it. It was verified, but he didn’t send a single tweet on the account. His bio mentioned that he was forced to get a Twitter, but never used it. His storylines on WWE for the last few months were just of him putting people over and at times, it seemed like it was up in the air if he was actually leaving or not. They advertised a few of “The Shield: Last Time Ever” matches and milked it for what it was worth. The last time that Ambrose was seen on television he was put through a table by Bobby Lashley and his wife came to his aid after Lashley was finished.

They also had the WWE Network special last Sunday with The Shield at a Live event. It was the last match within his current contract. Pulling a swerve on everyone would be just what he needs as a character and bringing back Jon Moxley could do just that. After all, the tweet said that Dean Ambrose would not renew his contract, not that Jon Moxley wouldn’t sign a new deal. Technically, these last few months wouldn’t be a lie, but I’m not sure how this would sit with fans if he comes back under a new moniker. They conducted a sit-down interview with the members of The Shield, but if Ambrose was seriously leaving, why would they give him this much attention? It doesn’t really make any sense. It could be their way of honoring what he has done for the company, but since when has WWE ever done that? This whole situation has felt weird ever since WWE sent the tweet out about is departure back in January. WWE still follows Moxley/Ambrose on Twitter, so this could be an indicator that he is staying. It also may just be that they forgot to unfollow him, but it keeps everyone speculating.

In the video, a pair of dice can be seen showing the numbers 2 and 5. Double or Nothing is on May 25th, so we can assume that is either a jab or an indication of something to come. Another thing that added some speculation is the fact that AEW’s Executive VP, Cody Rhodes, liked the tweet. AEW doesn’t follow Moxley, but it looks like another person from AEW liked the tweet and liked comments from fans discussing a potential match at the PPV event. Joey Janela is the person and a match with those two looks like it would be a dream match. I’ll be honest, I don’t dig into Independent wrestling, so I don’t know a lot about certain people outside of WWE, but I do know that Joey Janela is a hardcore wrestler and so is Moxley. It is a perfect matchup and Janela is currently listed in a battle royal match, but they could easily change their mind within a month. We’ll see if this comes to fruition.

Is it all a swerve or are we finally seeing the beginning stages of the beloved Dean Ambrose becoming an AEW performer? I don’t know, but it is going to be an interesting month.
