The New Oakland Athletics Stadium Proposal Is Pretty Sweet
So the Oakland Athletics coming off their remarkable season in which they won 97 games despite having the lowest payroll in baseball have just unveiled their most recent proposal for a new stadium. This has been in the talks for years now largely due to the Oakland Coliseum being one of the worst stadiums in the country. Both the A’s and Raiders have been searching for new homes for years and due to no support lead to the Raiders leaving for Las Vegas.
Well the newest proposal is to build a waterfront park near Howard’s Terminal. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a big fan of the design. From the view of the waterfront and cranes looking out, to the scoreboard all by itself in dead center, to the walkway on top of the stadium, it is a really cool and unique design. In a baseball stadium that is exactly the kind of stuff I look for want every stadium to be different and unique and this proposal definitely offers that. The next big step in this proposal though is for the team and the city to strike a deal for the waterfront land and future us of the current stadium. The deadline that has been set is in April so in the next 5 months we will get a better picture of whether or not this actually happens. I don’t see it happening due to how much trouble the A’s and Raiders have had in the past trying to get a stadium deal, but the city of Oakland would be crazy not to support it. The city is losing the Golden State Warriors to San Francisco next year when their new arena opens and is losing the Raiders in 2 more years to Las Vegas. The city of Oakland needs to rally around the A’s since their the last team left in the city and make something special happen. What do you think?
