The Maple Leafs Finally Sign Nylander With No Time To Spare
So I blogged this a few weeks ago “William Nylander Is Pulling A Le’Veon Bell” and here we are on the day of the deadline and the Maple Leafs were able to successfully land Nylander. In that blog I predicted that Nylander would eventually be dealt due to his high asking price but surprisingly the Leafs were able to come to terms and hold onto one of their stud, young forwards. But….I was correct in the asking price being way too high. At the time it was reported that Nylander was asking for a long-term deal around $8.5 million a year and we all knew there was no way he was getting that type of money from Toronto. Maybe from another team if he was dealt, but no way was it coming from the Leafs. I said that is Pastrnak is only worth $6.67 million, then Nylander should expect nothing more. Well he was able to pull a little bit more with a $6.9 million, 6 year deal. And how close did this deal come to not happening?? It was submitted to the league office at 4:55 PM and the deadline was 5 PM. The Maple Leafs have been a wagon so far this season and sit just 1 pt out of first place, so adding Nylander makes them the Stanley Cup favorite in my opinion.
