Song of the Day (Dec. 31): Auld Lang Syne
With today being New Year’s Eve, today’s song of the day is the traditional NYE tune “Auld Lang Syne.” There are many versions, but I chose this one by Dougie MacLean because it is played beautifully on the guitar.
Most people don’t know anything about this tune we all hear every year, so here’s a little history. It originated in Scotland, written in 1788 by Scottish poet Robert Burns. The melody goes back even further than that, as it is likely from the 1500s. The title itself translates to, “for old time’s sake,” and is meant to reminisce on the year that’s about to end. Enjoy this classic.
