Thanny's Thoughts: Sunday NFL Divisional Round

The best way to describe how yesterday went is that it could have been worse. I ended up going 1-1 with me missing big time on the Colts and barely hitting on the Rams. So not only did I hype up Andrew Luck big time for him to let me down, I also said that the Colts would outright win that game. They obviously came no where close to covering the -5.5 spread losing 31-13. In the night game, the Cowboys played a little better than I expected as I thought they would get beat by 2 TDs. The Rams ended up covering -7 by 1 point but they also did have plenty of chances to bury the Cowboys and just missed those opportunities.

Am I confident heading into these playoffs? Not really. I would say there’s a decent chance we can win today against the Chargers but then we’d just get the Chiefs next week which would be a game that I would be very nervous about. I don’t see any chance that this Patriots team wins the Superbowl with this defense so the question is at what point does the inevitable happen? I would say that the Chargers are the better team overall when you’re looking at both their defense and offense, but obviously the Patriots are better coached and have the greatest QB of all time under center. Another thing to consider in this game is the weather. With temps around 25 degrees all game long, how will this affect the team coming from LA. With all that being said, to no surprise I’m taking the Chargers at +4 in this game because if you’ve followed me all season long then you know of my little trick of hedging against a Pats loss. Worst case scenario, the Pats lose and I win a bet. Best case scenario, obviously involves the Pats winning.

These 2 teams played back in week 11 and the Saints destroyed the Eagles to put it lightly. With Carson Wentz in at QB the Eagles lost that week 11 game 48-7. It just so happens to be the largest loss by a Superbowl champion in the following season. But good news for the Eagles, Carson Wentz isn’t starting at QB today and if they were smart he wouldn’t be starting for the Eagles come next season either. What Nick Foles continues to do in these must win games is incredible. How long until they make a movie about this guy? So if Vegas is wanting to just hand you over free money, you take it. The Eagles at +8 in this matchup has to be an absolute lock. The Saints have kind of struggled lately, granted they’ve had that first rd bye locked up for quite sometime, but there’s a zero % chance that we see a repeat of week 11. I still think that the Saints win this game, there my pick to win the Superbowl, but I fully expect this will be a close one. I mean can you imagine betting against Nick Foles at +8 at this point? You’d have to be crazy.
