When If Ever Will Bonds, Clemens & Schilling Get In The HOF?
So yesterday the MLB Hall of Fame revealed the results for the 2019 class which included Mariano Rivera(who was somehow the first unanimous player in HOF history, greatest closer ever but I can think of multiple players in the past few years who deserved unanimous over him), Roy Halladay, Edgar Martinez, and Mike Mussina. Coming up just short was arguably the most controversial trio on the ballot, with Schilling, Clemens and Bonds. This was the 7th year on the ballot for each individual and after failing to secure the 75% threshold this year, they will have just 3 more years to get in. The 3 were neck and neck in total voting percentage but still came about 15% short with Schilling getting 60.9%, Clemens having 59.5% and Bonds 59.1%. So will either of these three get enough votes in the next 3 years to head to Cooperstown?
In opinion I think that all 3 get in by the 10th year. Schilling should already be in but due to his controversial political views, he’s been delayed the honor. But he’s made a big 15% jump over the last 2 years and now has 3 yrs left to make up another 15%. Also Schilling doesn’t have steroids hanging over his head, again just the controversial point of views. Bonds and Clemens have been pretty much identical throughout their first 7 years on the ballot with Clemens usually getting about 1% more than Bonds which makes absolutely no sense because if you’re voting for one then you gotta vote for both, right? They both saw about a 3% bump this year and continue their steady climb from their 2nd yr on the ballot which was their lowest total around 34-35%.
Again, in the end I believe that all three get in the HOF but when will that be? Next year I can see Schilling getting voted in with Jeter because other than Jeter nobody else is going to be a first ballot and no other holdovers were above Schilling in % this year. That should should give Schilling a big boost and as long as he can keep out of the news, I think him and Jeter headline the 2020 class. If Schilling is able to get in the HOF in 2020 then I believe that this will benefit Bonds and Clemens greatly, as there are not really any big names in either the 2019 or 2020 that I believe get in, of course other than Jeter. So if Schilling gets in next year then nobody gets in the HOF in 2021 unless it’s Clemens and Bonds. So there’s my predictions, Schilling gets in next year on his 8th year and Clemens and Bonds get in before the 10th and final year in 2021. Let me know what you think?
