Marion Crane is working as a secretary in Phoenix, Arizona.  She is in love with a man named Sam Loomis but is growing tired of them having to meet in secret.  He is unable to fulfill her desire to get married because he is currently paying most of his money towards alimony.  That is until an opportunity is literally placed in Marion’s lap. She is faced with a life changing decision to deliver a client’s forty thousand dollars in cash to the bank before the weekend or take the money and run.  Marion packs up her life and heads to Sam with the money in order to start their life together and get married.  Along the way, she stops at the Bates Motel and meets the infamous Norman Bates.

This movie is nearly sixty years old and I can now proudly say that I have seen this American classic.  I feel this is one of those movies that you will appreciate more and more each time you watch it.  Psycho is labeled as a mixture of genres that include horror, thriller, and mystery.  Although horror movies have become much more intense over the years, this movie has stood the test of time and will continue to do so.  The camera work was very unique for its time and matched the intensity of the music and boy was the music intense in the forever famous “shower scene.”  I found the movie to be thought provoking as well, especially the quote from Norman when he and Marion were talking over dinner when she first arrived to the motel.  He said, “You know what I think? I think that we’re all in our private traps, clamped in them, and none of us can ever get out.  We scratch and we claw, but only at the air, only at each other, and for all of it, we never budge an inch.”  I could be wrong but I feel that was a reference to his relationship with his mother and that is one dysfunctional relationship for sure.  I don’t want to mention too much on that subject for fear of giving away any spoilers.  If I’m going to be honest, the only reason I made a point to watch Psycho was because I just purchased the show Bates Motel and I know it is the origin story of the Norman Bates character.  Now I am even more excited because Anthony Perkins’ portrayal of Norman absolutely blew me away and I now consider him one of the most intriguing characters I have ever seen.  Expanding on this story offers a ton of potential and my fellow Sports Chief pal AustYn as told me that it will not disappoint.  We shall see soon enough.  However, my rating for Psycho is a solid 4.5/5
