Chicago Bears Reaction

This blog will be short, un-proofread, and just a shot from the hip sort of thing.  Man what a loss for the Chicago Bears.  First off, I’m a Bears fan.  They finally had a good season and made it back to the playoffs.  They finally played well all season long and gave me hope they would make a serious run in the playoffs.  I mean, their defense is the best in football and I don’t think you can deny that.  They’ve proved that all season long, and even tonight.  I figured that would carry them throughout the playoffs, or at least to the NFC Championship.  I had the Bears rated #2 on my end of season power rankings because of their record and defense.  Maybe I was foolish for doing that.

Fast forward to tonight.  The Bears have a home playoff game against the Eagles, who despite winning the Super Bowl last year, have been less than impressive this season and barely squeaked into the playoffs.  Oh yeah, and they have their back-up quarterback starting for them.  It should be a warm-up game for the Bears, right?  The defense did their job, but the offense was slow moving all night.  They didn’t score a touchdown until the 4th quarter, their only one of the night.  I thought Trubisky played pretty good.  He threw for over 300 yards with a touchdown, and no interceptions.  I question a lot of the playcalling for the Bears offense though.  They were playing it way too safe all night, like he was scared Trubisky would make a mistake.  If they were really scared he would make a mistake, then that is obviously not your franchise quarterback.  But he gave them no reason to believe that.  Other than a few forced passes, he was mostly on point tonight.  When they finally started throwing downfield more in the 4th quarter, they got in the endzone.

Coach Nagy is supposed to be this offensive genius, but tonight he sure didn’t look like it.  To me, there were too many flashbacks of John Fox and his conservative playcalling.  And then we have the field goal.  Oh, the already infamous field goal.  Cody Parkey, who’s been pretty awful all season long, sets out to prove he’s the best kicker of all-time because apparently anyone can kick it through the uprights…but it takes special skill to actually hit the uprights, which he’s done now 5 times on the season!  5 times!  That’s dead-eye Cody right there.  Give that man a contract extension.  But it’s really no big deal.  Because what should we all have expected?  The Bears are just one of the few teams where that’s the kind of stuff fans learn to deal with.  I mean did we really expect to win the Super Bowl?  If the Bears are fortunate enough to get back to the playoffs next year, I’m sure they’ll up their game and find a way to lose in even more of a heartbreaking fashion.  Hey, maybe we’ll lose to the Browns!  Yep, that’s it.  I’m calling it right now, the Bears will lose to the Browns in the Super Bowl next year.  I can’t wait.  Bear down!
