Thanny's Thoughts: Sunday NFL Wildcard Round
So with my predictions for Saturday’s Wildcard matchups, I ended up going 1-1 with the Colts winning(The Colts defense looked great) and the Seahawks losing (Okay, okay Dak looked kind of decent, but I still don’t think he’s that good). But, I was 1-0 against the spread with the Cowboys and Seahawks game being a push, thanks to Sebastian Janikowski getting injured and the Seahawks going for a 2 point conversion with about a minute to play, and that’s what really matters. So 1-0 through 2 playoff games is what I would consider being off to a somewhat hot start. Let’s see if we can keep the momentum going into Sunday’s matchups.
At Baltimore Ravens -2.5 vs LA Chargers, 1:05 PM
I feel like this is the easiest matchup to pick of the weekend, which should probably make you cautious about taking my pick. I really like the LA Chargers in this matchup and especially at -2.5. I know that these two teams played just 2 weeks ago and the Ravens won 22-10 with a very impressive defensive display. But if you think for one moment that I’m going to trust Lamar Jackson as a quarterback in a playoff game, not happening. Actually there is a chance for Jackson and the Ravens but I feel like that chance all but dwindles if the Ravens allow 20+ points. The Ravens defense, which is one of the best in the league, has to show up for this game or for any game in the playoffs that the Ravens are involved in. I just think that the Chargers offense has to put up a somewhat decent display and that should be an easy win. LA Chargers win by 10 pts.
At Chicago Bears -6.5 vs Philadelphia Eagles, 4:40 PM.
With a spread this big, I think it’s pretty easy which way to lean in this game. While I feel like the outcome is almost a toss-up, for the sole reason that Nick Foles somehow turns into a top 5 QB this time of year. The Eagles were a mediocre team all year long with bad losses to Tampa Bay, Carolina, Tennessee and even got swept by Dallas this year. But all of a sudden Carson Wentz gets injured and Nick Foles comes in and the Eagles reel off 3 wins in a row vs the LA Rams, Houston and Washington. I’m leaning toward the Bears picking up the outright win in this game but I really do like the Eagles in this matchup at -6.5. Can you imagine though if Foles actually goes out here and leads the Eagles over this great Bears defense and the legend of this man just continues to grow. Also wouldn’t be surprised if Foles goes out here and throws 4 picks because all good things must come to an end.
