Liverpool Win Streak Is Over

After 17 consecutive wins in the Premier League, dating back to March, Liverpool’s win streak is over after their 1-1 draw against Manchester United. 17 consecutive wins is damn impressive and it was just 1 short of the all time record set by Manchester City back in 2017. In the 2017-18 Premier League season, which City were crowned champions, they reeled off 18 consecutive wins starting in the 3rd matchweek of that season. So again, while it is very impressive, it’s just short of being record breaking.

You know I think the very interesting thing about these win streaks is how the top 3 have all come in the past 2 years. I’ve already mentioned the top 2 win streaks but the 3rd longest win streak in Premier League history just so happens to be Manchester City again with 15 consecutive wins starting last February until matchweek 2 of this season when they tied Tottenham. So the top 3 all time win streaks in Premier League history have happened in the last 2 years and it begs the questions, has the Premier League lost its parity? The Premier League is the greatest soccer league in the world. They may not always have the top-end teams like La Liga with Barcelona and Real Madrid, but from top to bottom, the Premier League is the best. The Premier League has always given us such competition that the last place team could take down the first place team on any given weekend. That’s not fully went away but I do believe that the Premier League has lost some of its parity as of late. And I don’t want to see it go away, so while I will salute such an impressive run, I don’t want to see it become a common occurrence like it has.

Pochettino’s Days Are Numbered At Tottenham

While I don’t agree that Tottenham should move on from Mauricio Pochettino, because honestly who do they bring in that’s expected to be better than Pochettino, I could see him being shown the door by Christmas. Tottenham is in horrible form at the moment and it actually dates back to last season. Since February 23, Tottenham have a record of 6-5-10 in the Premier League. That’s right, they have 10 losses in their last 21 games. Unbelievable for a team that finished top 4 last season and who many had predicted as a lock for top 4 again this season. Cough, cough, I may or may not have predicted Tottenham to finish 3rd in the Premier League and said they had a slim chance at the title. There’s still a lot of season left and plenty of time for them to rebound. I just don’t see it happening under Pochettino. If Harry Kane doesn’t start scoring 2-3 goals a game, Pochettino is gone.

Other Notes:

  • Leicester are back to their winning ways after their 2-1 loss to Liverpool two weeks ago, as they take down Burnley 2-1.

  • Chelsea have now won 3 straight games after their 1-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday. It wasn’t pretty but it will do. Also good to see Marcos Alonso back on the score sheet. I’ve always been a big defender of Alonso. Yes, he can make some mistakes but no defender is better at attacking than him.

  • Lol at Arsenal. 1-0 loss to Sheffield United last night. Here’s a fact for you, Unai Emery is not the man for the Arsenal job. Yeah I know that they are only in 5th place, but the line-ups that this man trots out every week make zero sense. Any Arsenal fans out there, feel free to explain Joe Willock and Bukayo Saka starting Premier League games to me.

  • Also congrats to Sheffield United. The newly promoted team sit in 9th place with 12 pts.

  • Shout out to Aston Villa on their last second win over Brighton. Granted Brighton isn’t a team you should be waiting till the 90th minute to take the lead, but a win is a win.
