AEW Power Rankings: Week of October 24th
Ratings for both AEW Dynamite and NXT were down this week, but with Game 2 of the World Series and the NBA season starting, it was completely acceptable. Despite a drop in ratings, it was an excellent show, yet again. Pittsburgh had a great crowd last night and I’m interested to see what the crowd will be like next week in Charleston, West Virginia. AEW will be in Charlotte, NC in two weeks and myself, Randy, and Garett will be going to the show. I’m pretty fired up about the whole thing. The crowd are seemingly very electric and I’m excited to feel the energy. Here are my Power Rankings for the week and like always, you can let me know how I did this week. Let us know if you would rank them differently.
- 5: Dr. Britt Baker
Dynamite was live from Pittsburgh, scratch that, Brittsburgh yesterday and I’m glad the Britt Baker received a warm welcome from her home crowd. I’m also glad to see that AEW gave her this kind of publicity and made her look like a bigger star. She had a match with Jamie Hayter, who made her AEW Dynamite debut. The match wasn’t the greatest and it was predictable, but it was a good segment. Hayter was awesome in this match and I think some credit goes to Baker for that. I’ll be interested to see more from Hayter, but for now, Dr. Baker is AEW’s premier female talent.
- 4: SoCal Uncensored
This match with The Dark Order felt a little weird. It was a good match with a great ending, but something seemed off to me in the match. SCU moves on to the Championship round of the AEW Tag Team Championship Tournament and it makes perfect sense. Having them competing for the title is a smart move and it gives them more credibility as a team moving forward. I think they are the underdogs in their upcoming match, but I guess we’ll see what goes down in Charleston.
- 3: Lucha Brothers
They wasted no time starting this match. They didn’t have a proper intro to the show, because they started this match between the Lucha Bros and Private Party. It was a great match to kick the show off with and like I said last week, Lucha Bros are my favorite to be the first champs. They could establish the budding tag team division and give credibility and prestige to the new belts. It should be a fun match between them and SCU, but for now, I’m giving the nod to the Lucha Brothers. Cero Miedo!!
- 2: Kenny Omega
Since the start of Dynamite, Kenny Omega has won every singles match that he has been in and all but one total match. It’s no secret that he is one of the show’s stars and the match that he had with Joey Janela was the best of the night, in my opinion. Janela looked great and he is establishing himself as a solid wrestler, but obviously the goal was to make Omega look great. Omega captured the AAA Heavyweight Title, defeating Rey Fenix. He didn’t have the belt last night, but I think it will be seen on AEW programming sometime in the near future.
- 1: Cody
It was difficult not to make The American Nightmare number one this week. He and Jericho clearly have great chemistry and I am excited to see what they will do at Full Gear in a couple weeks. This week, the goal was to establish Cody as a strong babyface and they were highly successful. Although he did have some help from MJF, Dustin Rhodes, and DDP, Cody was the star of the segment and Jericho made sure that happened. Great work here from the guys at AEW and I’m anxious to see what unfolds on the next couple Dynamite shows.
