AEW Power Rankings: Week of November 21st
AEW lost the ratings war this week, but they had an awesome show. It appears that their next PPV won’t be for another couple months, but that gives them ample time to build feuds. The biggest takeaway from this week is knowing that we will see the AEW Championship on the line next week in Chicago. They will be at the same place that All Out was at and it should be an electric atmosphere. Here are my Power Rankings for this week’s action.
- 5: Hikaru Shida
Shida faced Dr. Britt Baker this week and the match was solidly paced and Shida picking up the win was a big deal. Baker looked solid in the match also, but the winner looks like she is on the fast track to a title shot. Shida and Riho faced off at All Out and we could see another matchup in the near future. Shida has looked impressive in every match that I’ve seen her in and hopefully she keeps getting the recognition she deserves.
- 4: Rey Fenix
Nick Jackson tweeted that it has been nearly 4 and a half years since his last singles match and this match was awesome. It started the show and Fenix took the win. The win made perfect sense and I’m glad that there wasn’t any interference. It would be more interesting to see these guys in more singles completion in the future and maybe even some title opportunities.
- 3: Luchasaurus
Luchasaurus looked strong on the show this week and it is about time. Every time he has stepped into the ring he has been over with the crowd and been impressive in the ring. The Jurassic Express has had a lot of fire, but not any wins to show for it and this win against Peter Avalon could be the start of a big run for not only Luchasaurus, but for the whole team.
- 2: Chris Jericho
it never gets old hearing a Jericho promo. He brought along Jake Hager to help him out with saying sorry, but everything that came out of his mouth was golden. Scorpio Sky definitely added to the segment, but Jericho made that segment and without him, it wouldn’t have been nearly as good. It looks like Jericho is going to defend the title next week against the guy who pinned him last week and it should be a very entertaining match.
- 1: Jon Moxley
It doesn’t feel right that this is Moxley’s first number one appearance. He has been at the top of his game since the start of AEW and has been a driving force behind their star power. Moxley and Allin in the main event was better than I expected and I expected it to be very solid. I was interested to see what kind of match they could put on without props. Not that I had doubts about them performing without weapons, but it was a pleasant sight to see this good of a match here. You have to think Moxley will be the guy to take down the champ when the time comes, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
