NXT TakeOver: WarGames Predictions
This is my first NXT TakeOver predictions article and I feel like it has been a long time coming. I watch most of the NXT TakeOver shows, but I have never predicted one, so it should be very interesting. For now, there are only 4 matches. Most of the TakeOver shows have 5, so we may get another match between now and the start time and I’ll add matches if necessary . The NXT talent has a long weekend and if they play their cards right, they should gain extra attention and hopefully they can walk away with a little more credibility among the general wrestling fans. There are some possible surprises in store and we should be in store for a lot of great wrestling tonight. WarGames is one of the most intriguing concepts in wrestling history and each NXT event that has housed the traditional WarGames cages has been more memorable than the last. Here are my predictions.
*Predicted Winners are bolded
*Match Card may not be in exact order
- Men’s Singles Match
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott vs. Angel Garza
This match was just added Friday night and it will go on in the pre-show. Both competitors have had a little bit of momentum here lately, but I think Swerve has been on a hotter streak than Garza. I think Scott will carry that momentum forward here and pick up the win. Other than that, it should be a fun match to get the ball rolling on the fun show ahead.
- Men’s WarGames Match
The Undisputed Era vs. Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic, TBD
I think they will start and end with WarGames matches on the show and I decided to put this one first, but I think it all depends on who the special mystery partner for Team Ciampa is going to be. There are few names floating around and the most interesting one that I’ve heard is John Morrison. He signed with WWE a couple months ago and now they are playing the waiting game for him to return. It could be someone like Velveteen Dream, who is an NXT favorite. Or someone like Kevin Owens, who has been linked to rumors of a return to NXT. There is even the possibility of the return of a hometown talent who made his debut on a certain WWE affiliated show on FS1 after a nearly 6-year departure. Nah, I doubt it, but that would be awesome to see. Although the UE is a dominant force in the NXT, I can see the mystery partner garnering enough momentum to put Team Ciampa over. Adam Cole doesn’t have to take the fall and he can still walk into Survivor Series with a lot of confidence. Like I said, it depends on who the mystery partner is, but I think Keith Lee has a lot of buzz right now and he could be the star of this contest.
- Men’s Singles Match
Matt Riddle vs. Finn Bálor
This match should be a fun one. Bálor is making his official in-ring return to NXT and a match between he and Riddle should be electric. Their styles aren’t similar, but Finn Bálor doesn’t really have bad matches and Matt Riddle has been very solid in every match that I’ve seen him in. With that being said, I think Bálor picks up the win here simply because he is coming back and his heel run needs a little momentum as far as settling things in the ring go. Neither competitor is really going to be hurt with a loss, but I think Bálor would lose most of the traction he has gained since his return if he does lose.
- Men’s Triple Threat: Number 1 Contender Match for NXT Championship at Survivor Series
Pete Dunne vs. Killian Dain vs. Damian Priest
NXT has built this 3-way feud very nicely over the past couple of months. In all reality, I think this could go in any direction, however, I think Dunne has the best odds. Priest hasn’t really earned a title shot yet and neither has Killian Dain, but Pete Dunne is primed for a shot at the NXT Championship. When I started really getting back into wrestling, that was around the time that Pete Dunne became the UK Champion and I have become a fan of his. He happened to hold the title for nearly two years and not to mention the fact that he won the title at NXT TakeOver: Chicago in 2017. By the way, he will be in the same arena tonight, and if he wins, tomorrow night as well. My prediction is that The Bruiserweight will not only win this match, but become your new NXT Champion by Sunday night.
- Women’s WarGames Match
Rhea Ripley, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, Mia Yim vs. Shayna Baszler, Io Shirai, Bianca Belair, Kay Lee Ray
I did not know who to really choose in this match. They built a solid lineup here on both sides and it should be very entertaining. I just don’t think Baszler loses going into her big match at Survivor Series against Becky Lynch and Bayley though. As far as star power is concerned, there is no question that Team Baszler should win at this particular moment in time. They have the gold in Baszler and Kay Lee Ray and they have two powerhouse performers in Shirai and Belair. While Team Ripley is hard to root against, I don’t think this match will go their way. Ripley could legitimately become the face of the Women’s division in a couple years and the rest of the ladies are awesome talents, but I just don’t think momentum is in their favor right now. I’m excited to see what they can come up with in this match though.
