Song of the Day: Layla

Today’s song of the day is “Layla” by Derek and the Dominos, a band that included extremely well-known singer/guitarist Eric Clapton. It was released in 1971 on the band’s album titled, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. There is another version of the song that was very popular as well, which is the slowed-down Unplugged version from Eric Clapton in 1992. But it’s the original version that I think is one of the better songs of all time. And many people feel the same way. It made Rolling Stone’s list of “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” at #27. Also like many people, my favorite part of this song is the final four minutes, where there is no singing and only the guitar and piano can be heard. It’s absolutely beautiful. And for anyone who has seen the movie Goodfellas, how can it not remind you of the end?
