Don’t Look Now But Mourinho Has Tottenham Rolling

Tottenham now have 4 wins in their first 5 Premier League games under new boss Jose Mourinho. I know right, shocker. Just to put this in perspective, Tottenham only had 3 wins in their first 12 games of the season under ex-coach Mauricio Pochettino. Also Tottenham were winless on the road in the Premier League since January of this year and now they’ve already picked up 2 road wins in the short time frame Mourinho has been coach. As a Chelsea fan, a team that struggling mightily to say the least, Tottenham is by far the scariest competition for a top 4 spot. Chelsea had 26 points on November 23rd when Mourinho took over Tottenham and Tottenham had 14 points. That 12 pt gap has now been cut down to 3 pts in a whopping 24 days. Now of course the December schedule is busier than than most of the season but that’s a wild turn of events in that time frame. Mourinho has Dele Alli playing like the star he was expected to become as a young player, Heung-Min Son is playing some of the best football of his career, and Christian Erikson, well he’s still not getting hardly any playing time. Lol I guess Mourinho is preparing for life after Erikson by trying to win without him. But for now it’s working, and if Mourinho can land some defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window, this Spurs team would be looking quite well for a top 4 spot.

Other Notes:

  • Chelsea are sliding, not in the table, yet, just in form. Chelsea have now lost 4 out of their last 5 Premier League matches, which started on November 23 against Man City. The worst part is that since the Man City lost they’ve had some inexcusable losses against West Ham, Everton and Bournemouth. The goal scoring has dried up for Chelsea, who are desperately missing Eden Hazard to create something from nothing, and with the defense still being suspect, has led to this drop in form.

Doesn’t help when you miss from this range.

  • Liverpool continue their winning ways picking up a 2-0 win over Watford. Liverpool now improve to an incredible 16-1-0 on the season. With Liverpool heading to the Club World Cup this week, due to their Champions League success last year, Liverpool only have 2 more Premier League matches for the 2019 year. A showdown against 2nd place Leicester City on Boxing Day and then a match against Wolves on Dec. 29.

Is this backheel, nutmeg goal from Mo Salah, goal of the year or troll of the year?

  • Got to give another shout out to Sheffield United who just continue to impress. In their last 6 games they’ve picked up draws against Tottenham and Man United, and 2 consecutive wins over Norwich and Aston Villa. Just short of the midway point and Sheffield United sit in 7th place with 25 pts and just a single point out of a 5th place Europa League spot.

  • Manchester City took down Arsenal 3-0 in the least surprising result of the season. The real questions is how long are Arsenal going to ride out this Freddie Ljungberg caretaker experiment? It’s already been too long.
