WWE Power Rankings: Week of December 21st 2019

Only 1 more week in the 2019 WWE season and that means there will only be one more Power Rankings article left in the year. I will also do a lookback article for 2019 and see who the Top 10 for the whole year was. There were a lot of strong competitors and it will be interesting to see how the WWE has changed over the course of 12 months. I’m also interested to see the impact of NXT’s move to TV, but I’m guessing that the impact will be felt more in 2020. Speaking of the shows this week, they were all pretty good. NXT probably had the edge, but honestly, it was really close this week between the three shows. This week probably had the easiest number one in quite some time, because there was one particular moment that stood out above the rest. Here are my Power Rankings for the week.

-       10: The Miz and Daniel Bryan (NR, NR)

WWE

WWE

The Miz was defeated at TLC on Sunday and Daniel Bryan made a surprise attack on Bray Wyatt after The Miz’s match. They teamed up together on Friday to take on the team of Dolph Ziggler and King Corbin and emerged victorious in the main event. I really want to see these two team up in the near future, but I can’t particularly see it happening, due to their on again, off again feud. Next week, these two guys will be in a triple threat match along with King Corbin to see who the new number one contender will be for the Universal Championship. It will be interesting to see how that unfolds.

-       9: Becky Lynch (NR)

Lynch was on the losing side of the TLC main event, but made a strong impact on Monday night. She wasn’t in a match, but she delivered a wonderful promo and challenged Asuka to a match at Royal Rumble for the RAW Women’s Championship. I can’t see Asuka saying no, so I’m excited to see this match again. Last year, Asuka defeated Lynch at Royal Rumble when she made her tap out, but Lynch went on to win the Royal Rumble match. Lynch has only had one clean loss since then, so it should be a great match.

-       8: The O.C. (NR)

The O.C. competed at TLC for the RAW Tag titles. They didn’t win, but they also didn’t lose, so on RAW, they received another shot to face The Viking Raiders. This time it wasn’t a title match, but it looks like they should get another shot at the titles, because they won the match. It was a good match, but one that would’ve benefitted more in a PPV setting. On the other hand, AJ Styles was defeated by Randy Orton on RAW. I don’t know where that leaves both competitors at the moment, but I do expect them to be strong entrants in the Royal Rumble coming up.

-       7: The New Day (NR)

WWE

WWE

After having a Match of the Night win against The Revival at TLC, they had another nice win against Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro on Friday night. The New Day is bringing the power to the tag team division and I hope they have another solid run as champs. They certainly deserve it.

-       6: Heavy Machinery (NR)

WWE

WWE

Speaking of the tag team division, Heavy Machinery is one of the most entertaining duos in quite some time. They desperately need to win tag titles pretty soon. They defeated The Revival in a Miracle on 34th Street Fight Friday night and it was very entertaining. Also, shoutout to my man Otis for getting a kiss from Mandy Rose. I know that is something that he has been wanting for a long time. Also, Otis is celebrating a birthday today, so his week couldn’t get much better.

-       5: Kabuki Warriors (NR)

WWE

WWE

They may be ranked a little high this week, but I wanted to give them their props because they did win the main event of TLC. Although the match wasn’t what it could’ve been, it still was a very solid showing from everyone that wasn’t concussed. Asuka competed on RAW this week against an NXT star. She defeated Deonna Purrazzo this week and it was probably the best match on RAW. The majority of the year has almost been a waste for Asuka, it is great to see here getting on TV more.

-       4: Lacey Evans (NR)

WWE

WWE

I really didn’t know who to rank from this segment, but I loved everything about it. Bayley had a short match, but really solid match with Dana Brooke and then Lacey Evans came out and challenged Sasha Banks to a match. The match ended in a double countout, but what happened afterwards sold the whole segment. They panned the camera to Evans’ daughter and Sasha Banks attack Evans in front of her. Evans had to be held back and it looked like a real fight. I really haven’t seen a segment with that much heat in a long time. It was great and I hope they capitalize on it.

-       3: Adam Cole (NR)

WWE

WWE

The NXT Champion had another strong week this week and on Wednesday he successfully retained his title against Finn Bálor in the opener of NXT. I don’t exactly know who his next opponent for the title will be, but if I had to make a guess, I’d say it will be Keith Lee. He looks to be the strongest contender at the moment, but there are a lot of potential suitors for it.

-       2: Seth Rollins (1)

Rollins didn’t have an impact on Sunday night, but on RAW he was very strong. He and AOP opened the show with a promo and then later on, Rollins challenged Rey Mysterio to a US title match next week. Rollins has been an even stronger competitor since turning heel and it will be interesting to see where this momentum will lead.

-       1: Rhea Ripley (NR)

WWE

WWE

I knew this was going to happen eventually, but I didn’t know exactly when. Rhea Ripley is your new NXT Women’s Champion and she ended the 416-day reign of Shayna Baszler. It is absolutely rare that title reigns last that long any more, but I couldn’t think of a better time for it to happen. Ripley will go into 2020 as champ and it should bring in a new era of women’s wrestling. Hopefully she will get a fair shot at defending the title, because she isn’t a competitor that will fade away.
