Song of the Day: West End Blues
As we prepare to enter into the 2020s, I wanted to take a look back at the most popular songs a century ago in the 1920s. Louis Armstrong’s “West End Blues” is one of them. This song had a big influence in jazz music and in other music that would come in later years. I’ve always been intrigued by the 1920s decade in America and the entire Roaring 20s culture. Listening to jazz tunes like this one make me feel like I’m in a speakeasy in New York City or Chicago, wearing a suit, and sipping on whisky. It’s also always very interesting to me to see how much “popular” music has changed in certain time spans. Most people today wouldn’t hesitate to turn the station if they heard this come on the radio. And that’s such a shame.
