AEW Power Rankings: Week of December 7th
Dynamite was really solid this week with a lot of good segments. Some didn’t hit as hard, but there was plenty of good things to take away from it. They’re still continuing to establish the stars and slowly bring about new performers and I think they’re doing a great job thus far. They won the ratings war this week and I think for good reason. It’s difficult to turn away from AEW when you are watching, but there is still a great deal to improve upon. Here are my rankings for this week.
- 5: Dustin Rhodes and The Young Bucks
These three guys teamed up this week in the opener of Dynamite and they defeated Santana and Ortiz with Sammy Guevara. This is only the second time that Dustin has been in a match on Dynamite since the start and he has been awesome each time he’s been in the ring. This match didn’t overdo the spots and they had a sufficient amount of time to put on an excellent match. This feud looks like it is going to continue and it has been solid so far.
- 4: Kris Statlander
Statlander has been on the last couple shows and she has been phenomenal. I want to see more from her in the near future and with this big win over Hikaru Shida, she could find herself in the title picture pretty soon. I thought about putting Nyla Rose here, but I thought Statlander’s win over a more legitimate competitor was worthier of a Top 5 spot.
- 3: Jon Moxley
Moxley’s main event push is continuing and he put on a solid showing against Joey Janela in the main event. My only complaint is almost every Moxley match has a prop of some sort. I know that is a part of his gimmick, but I want to see him get quality wins without using tables or some sort of weaponry. It would mean more to his build up to the title picture, but for now it looks like fans want to see unadulterated violence.
- 2: Chris Jericho
Heads up, the top 2 spots are going to performers that didn’t compete in match. I don’t normally do this, buy I think that this week warranted it. The Lexicon of Le Champion was born this week and it is a play on his gimmick in the WWE with The List. On this Lexicon, he named the competitors that he will not be facing for the title in a couple weeks, but more importantly we found out who he will be facing for the title. Jungle Boy will compete for the title and it was shocking to see this, because most fans probably thought it was going to be Luchasaurus, but Jungle Boy and Jericho should be a great showing.
- 1: Cody
Again, I normally try to avoid promo only competitors taking the top spot, but Cody was on fire this week. Not that he hasn’t been in the past, but his feud with MJF is heating up and he delivered another classic promo on Wednesday. Butcher and Blade’s introduction was interesting, but I don’t really know what their deal is yet, but I guess we will find out in the coming weeks.
