Chelsea Have Transfer Ban Lifted

Chelsea were midway through serving a transfer ban for signing underage players. Apparently there is rules and regulations when it comes to signing academy players. Well Chelsea were originally due to serve a transfer ban, which means we can’t sign any new players, for the summer and winter transfer windows. Chelsea have already served the summer transfer ban, which is what led to the youth revolution so far this season. Despite our appeals last spring not getting the suspension overturned, I guess the judges figured we suffered through enough with the summer window ban, because our appeal this time worked, despite nothing changing. So it opens the door for Chelsea to turn back to their old ways of bringing in senior team footballers instead of trusting our youth, but will it be different this time? Despite the strong start to the season, Chelsea have now lost 3 out of their last 4 games in the Premier League and are looking like they could use some additions in January. So far Chelsea have been linked to Werner, Chilwell, Sancho, Zaha, along with a few others. Of these big names, the only one I could see them signing midway through the season is Zaha, as the other three play for teams that are very much in the hunt. Overpaying for Wilfried Zaha is the perfect way for Chelsea to get back to their old ways.

Other Notes:

  • Another coach bites the dust. This time it’s Everton’s Marco Silva getting the boot. Everton were off to a pitiful start with only 14 pts through 15 games. Duncan Ferguson has taken over as caretaker for the club, and got off to a flying start with a 3-1 win over Chelsea.

  • Manchester United have a huge week picking up wins over Tottenham and then Manchester City. First they pick up a 2-1 win, thanks to a penalty, against their old coach Jose Mourinho, then they upset Manchester City in the Manchester Derby on Saturday, 2-1. Oh yeah, they also had a penalty in that game as well. Maybe the biggest single week since SAF’s days at the club. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might have just bought himself some more time with those two wins.

  • Liverpool continue to dominate. 5-2 win over Everton on Wednesday, followed up by a 3-0 win over Bournemouth over the weekend.

  • But Liverpool’s lead stay at only 8 pts, because Leicester City just continues to keep winning. So much so that Leicester City have locked up head coach Brendan Rodgers to a new 5 yr extension. I highly doubt he sees that contract out, and I’m not hinting at him leaving for a bigger club.

  • Champions League and Europa League group stages finish up this week, followed by more Premier League matches over the weekend. Tottenham and Manchester City have already locked up their tickets to the knockout stage in Champions League, while Liverpool and Chelsea have some work left to do but sit in the driver’s seat as far as controlling their destiny. In Europa League, Manchester United and Wolves have already advanced to the next round while Arsenal, barring a complete meltdown and borderline miracle, are through as well.
