The Chicago Blackhawks Might Actually Make The Playoffs
So much for tanking for Jack Hughes because believe it or not but the Chicago Blackhawks are tied with the Colorado Avalanche with 61 pts. Now the Avalanche currently occupy the last wildcard spot in the West, due to the Blackhawks having played 1 more game, but what a resurgence we’ve seen from the Chicago Blackhawks in the second half of this season. At the start of 2019, the Blackhawks were just 2 pts better than the last place team in the NHL. This team was done for, they were dead last in the Western Conference and you would have thought that the tank would have been on. But, here we are just a little over a month and a half later and they are a tiebreaker away from being in a playoff spot. The Blackhawks have been one of the hottest teams in the league over the past month winning 10 of their last 12 games and making it 8 for 10 so far in February. Most of this success can be contributed to the one and only Patrick Kane. Kane is in the midst of a 19 game point streak in which he has 42 total points in that same time frame. This Blackhawks resurgence along with Kane’s incredible play could push him to rival Kucherov for the Hart Trophy(mvp). Patrick Kane is 2nd in the league with 92 points, he’s currently 7 pts behind Kucherov, and he’s 2nd in the league with 38 goals, which is 4 goals behind Ovechkin. He’s on pace to beat his 2015-16 mvp season numbers. So can they keep up this newly found momentum and make the playoffs? Or better yet could they even make a run in the playoffs? With Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews anything is possible.
Granted I will admit that the Blackhawks have benefited from the bottom half of the Western conference being extremely poor. If the Blackhawks were in the East with 61 pts they would be 4 teams out of the playoffs and 8 pts behind. But hey I’d rather be lucky than good any day of the week.
