WWE Power Rankings: Week of March 21st-26th

This week I’m not going to go through a thorough breakdown of the shows, because the important events that happened are reflected in the Top 10 that I chose. At this point, WrestleMania is closing in only the most important names in storylines are crucial. There are a lot of superstars that weren’t ranked last week in this week’s edition of the WWE Power Rankings. I hope you guys enjoy it

I knew who I wanted to be in my Top 9, but this week I was stumped when it came to the number 10 this week. To avoid overthinking it, I went with an obvious entry. The Universal Champion appeared on RAW for the first time in quite a while, January 28th to be exact. Lesnar and Paul Heyman kicked off the show with their usual shtick, but was interrupted by Drew McIntyre. Shortly thereafter, Seth Rollins attacked McIntyre with a steel chair and came after Lesnar, but Lesnar escaped the ring. The main event was Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins and Lesnar appeared again, only to distract Rollins from his opponent, thus helping McIntyre secure the victory. Lesnar’s impact wasn’t huge, but an impact nonetheless. Not many fans still want to see him as the Universal Champion after WrestleMania and this may be the last time we see him until then, so we’ll see how it unfolds.

-      9: Charlotte Flair (NR)

I felt obligated to include Charlotte Flair in this week’s rankings, but she really didn’t do much to warrant a spot in the Top 10. My reasoning for her has been the same as it has been for months now. She is in the biggest storyline in the WWE and is benefiting by being the third wheel. She and Becky Lynch had another promo this week, but the mediator was Kevin Owens. There wasn’t much talking, but they are still keeping it interesting. Some people may say that this storyline is being surpassed at the moment, but I disagree. The three women in the feud are getting the biggest fan reactions at shows and should continue that for another two weeks. Charlotte Flair may be the third wheel, but despite this she is remaining relevant. She is meant to be hated and she is playing that role well.

-      8: The IIconics (NR)

For the first time in the Power Rankings history, The IIconics are on the list. I am a big fan of the IIconics and I’m glad they’re finally being used in a meaningful storyline. People underestimate them because their in-ring ability isn’t that of Charlotte Flair, Asuka, Becky Lynch, etc., but their work on the mic is marvelous. If they are given the chance, I think that they could really shine. It looks like they will be involved at WrestleMania in what I’m assuming will be a Fatal 4-Way tag match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. On SmackDown, they pulled of a shocking win over the team of Sasha and Bayley. I think this all but confirms that they will be competing for the titles. The Australian tag team will look to become the second Women’s tag team champs in the near future.

-      7: Kurt Angle (NR)

Another first-time entry on the list is the Olympic Gold medalist, Kurt Angle. Last week, Angle announced that WrestleMania will be his farewell match. This week, he announced his opponent for his WrestleMania match. The answer was extremely disappointing. Baron Corbin is the man that he wanted to defeat and the crowd hated that answer. He then wrestled against Chad Gable and won. The match wasn’t great and the revealing of his WrestleMania opponent was a huge letdown, but it was a highly anticipated part of the show and gained a lot of interest. I still think he will face someone else, but from what I’m reading, that isn’t the case. We’ll find out in a couple weeks, but for now, we’re getting Baron Corbin vs. Kurt Angle at WrestleMania. Yippee….

-      6: Daniel Bryan (NR)

The WWE Champ looked strong this week and found his way back into the Top 10. Just when I thought his act was getting stale, he refreshed it this week. Not that he really did things different, he made a huge impact on his future opponents’ title implications. He is setting himself apart from the rest of the competition and solidifying his status as the Champion. Just before the gauntlet match, Bryan delivered another great promo calling Kofi Kingston a B+ superstar. This was the same exact response that The Authority told him after losing his first WWE title reign. He lost the title after a Money in the Bank cash-in by Randy Orton at SummerSlam in 2013. He then appeared at the end of SmackDown to defeat Kofi Kingston after an impressive performance. It will be interesting to see what they do with this title at WrestleMania and I’m fully invested in the story at the moment.

-      5: The Miz (NR)

Last week Shane McMahon explained his side of the story and this week, The Miz got a chance to tell his side. McMahon had a strong promo last week, but The Miz delivered one of his best promos ever, and that is saying something. The Miz is one of the best talkers in the business and he proved that on Tuesday night. The storyline is cheesy, but they are playing it up about as well as the two of them can. It seems pretty predictable that The Miz is going over at WrestleMania, but it is entertaining nonetheless. This feud has been cooking for many months and the outcome will be decided in a couple of weeks. This goes to show if you have the right superstars and if you give them ample time to build a storyline, even if it is cheesy, then it can be a memorable moment. Whether you like it or not, I think this could be one of the most memorable points at WrestleMania 35.

-      4: Becky Lynch (4)

Back in the number 4 spot is the red-headed Lass Kicker from Ireland. I didn’t feel like I could drop her out of the Top 5, because she didn’t digress this week. She didn’t really improve for that matter, but the feud is still hot and Lynch is right in the middle of it. She and Charlotte Flair was on the KO Show, but there wasn’t a lot of talking going on. The two attacked each other and even attacked some security guards. It wasn’t the best segment from Tuesday night, but the crowds are still reacting to these women more than any other superstars on the roster. I know the TV people can play with the audio, but you can’t fake the visuals. They visible still look into it and that is enough for me to keep Lynch in the Top 5.

-      3: Ronda Rousey (3)

A small disclaimer, I hated everything about Rousey’s segment on RAW. Ronda was scheduled to take on Dana Brooke after Brooke interrupted her last week. The fight was for the RAW Women’s Championship and while I didn’t expect Dana Brooke to have a chance, I expected her to put up somewhat of a fight. What did Dana Brooke do to deserve this? After the match was over Rousey kept the Arm bar locked for what seemed to be an eternity for Brooke I’m sure. Her husband was in the crowd and just as Rousey went over to him, she was met with security guards. Of course, she attacked them and her husband even attacked one himself. She and her husband exited through the arena. I know they are trying to build heel heat for her, but this just isn’t doing anything for me. The fine and her basically begging the WWE to fire her is just ridiculous in my opinion. Why would she get fined in a “scripted” scenario? She called out the WWE for being “fake” and “scripted”, so this just isn’t making since to me. Of course, I know it is scripted and that is all a part in them trying to build heat for her, but it doesn’t make me hate her, it makes me discredit her. The circumstances from this week’s show and the importance of her storyline is literally the only reason she is at number 3 this week. If this were on a personal scale, she wouldn’t be in the Top 10.

-      2: Drew McIntyre (8)

There is only one person in the WWE that gained more attention in this week’s slate of shows and that really speaks volumes. I think he earned every bit of the number 2 spot this week. In his match against Seth Rollins in the main event, Rollins got distracted by Brock Lesnar and that helped McIntyre win, but he didn’t need it to win. He did enough during the course of the match to secure the victory. The match was a really great showing by the two and I hope we get to see this match for the Universal Championship very soon. It was also announced that Drew McIntyre will be facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. I am super excited about that match and many people are saying Roman is a lock to win, but I personally feel it is McIntyre’s to lose. This feels like a number one contender match at the next PPV. McIntyre is on a hot streak and I think they are going to ride it until he is in the title picture and we aren’t far off. The WWE is lacking any real heels and Drew McIntyre is just that. If Rollins wins the Universal Championship, which it isn’t a lock, I say McIntyre beats Roman at WrestleMania, then immediately goes on to be Rollins’ first title defense.

-      1: Kofi Kingston (2)

Number 1 for the second time in 2019 for Kofi Kingston is something that I never expected to see when I started the Power Rankings, but here he is. Kofi was in another gauntlet match on SmackDown, just like the one earned him this amount of attention. I beat all five of his opponents in the match, which is the first time in WWE history that has happened. Then Mr. McMahon, in typical fashion, had an extra opponent for Kingston. It was WWE Champion Daniel Bryan. The match with Bryan was just too much to handle for Kofi and he was defeated. A lot of people aren’t liking the wild goose chase that Mr. McMahon is having Kofi to go through, but I totally understand what they are doing here. It feels like they are building him up for something special. At the moment, I’m not sure how he will get into the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania, but at this point, there isn’t anyone else competing for it. Kofi is the only superstar over enough to legitimately compete for the title. I’m hearing that the annual Andre The Giant Battle Royal is an option to get him in the match. It would totally work, but I don’t know how he would realistically throw Braun Strowman over the top rope. We shall see.
