The round of 32 is upon us and almost always gives college basketball fans great games to watch.  We’ve already seen one with the Maryland-LSU game coming down to a last second game-winning shot.  I expect Wofford-Kentucky, which is on right now, to be a great game as well.  But let’s talk about the Sunday games.  There are eight of them slated for tomorrow, and like I did with yesterday’s article, I will highlight the games for which I am most excited about watching.  Here they are:

#9 Washington vs. #1 North Carolina

Midwest Region

2:40 p.m.

CBS

As a Carolina fan, I’m excited to see how the Tar Heels follow up their opening round win over a very scrappy Iona team.  Washington is coming off a win against arguably the hottest team in the nation in Utah State, and are the best team from the Pac-12.  I’m hoping Carolina comes out faster and more aggressive than they did last night against Iona, and doesn’t dig themselves a 1st half hole.  The Huskies will certainly come out aggressive since defense is a big part of their game.  They are led be Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in Matisse Thybulle.  The good thing for the Tar Heels, though, is the fact that they have so many capable scorers, so the Huskies will have their hands full.

#12 Liberty vs. #4 Virginia Tech

East Region

7:10 p.m.

TBS

Many people may not know this, but this is an in-state battle.  Liberty, who upset Mississippi State in their first round game, is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, less than two hours from the campus of Virginia Tech.  The Flames were the best team from the ASUN Conference with a 29-6 overall record.  They are playing really good ball right now and are definitely capable of knocking off Virginia Tech to head to the Sweet 16.  The Hokies had a very good year in the powerful ACC, and just got back their best player in Justin Robinson, who missed a few months this season due to injury.  They are an experienced team, with an experienced coach in Buzz Williams.  Ultimately, I think the Hokies are too strong for Liberty and will advance to next weekend.

#13 UC Irvine vs. #12 Oregon

South Region

9:40 p.m.

TBS

Both of these teams pulled off upsets in the first round, as UC Irvine took down Kansas State and Oregon defeated Wisconsin.  Now they both look to extend their season in San Jose on Sunday evening.  UC Irvine has won an impressive 17 games in a row, so confidence is pouring out of them, and I’m sure they feel like they can beat anybody.  They are well-coached and are a very smart team, which shoots the ball well.  Oregon is also one of the hotter teams in the nation and they’ve now won nine in a row.  Ever since making adjustments after losing Bol Bol for the rest of the season, they have turned a corner in a major way.  They are very athletic, like most Oregon teams, and can beat you in a variety of ways.  Point guard Payton Pritchard is really on top of his game right now, so I’m ready to see the matchup with him and Anteater guard and leading scorer Max Hazzard.  I think this game will go down to the wire with the Ducks barely holding on to win.
