NBA Rookie Of the Year
The debate is on. Who should win NBA rookie of the year? To be honest I can’t call it. Two young rising stars have been tearing up the court they past several months and it making for a tough decision on who should take the title of Rookie of the Year. Let’s talk about it.
Luka Doncic started off the season as a clear winner for the ROY title currently averaging over 21 points 5.9 assist per game over 69 games. Doncic came into the league with something to prove as he competed to try and earn an Allstar bid. Unfortunately, he was unable to make the cut and has suffered some injuries this year. Never the less the guy can ball. He has all but patented that step back jumper and has made several defenders pay.
Then you have Trae Young who is a brilliant shooter averaging 18.9 points 7.9 assist per game over 75 games. Young started the year off a bit slow, but has turned up the heat over the last few months. He competed in the all star skills challenge along with Doncic. Young finished second after a Celtics Jayson Tatum hit a half court shot to win the challenge.
Both of these players have earned the right to be considered rookie of the year, and each has peaked at different times. This makes it more of a challenging decision to choose a winner in my book. As of this moment I am going with Trae Young based on how he is ending the season. I would’ve liked to see a hotter start to his career earlier on, but I believe he has a lot of great potential. Luka deserves a lot of credit is well and whomever wins between the two I will not be disappointed. Let me know what you think @thesportschief on Twitter!
