Top 10 Charlotte Knights 2019 Promotions
In exactly one month, the Charlotte Knights will begin their season at home against the Durham Bulls. Baseball season can’t get here soon enough, and I know fans all around Charlotte are ready to head back out to BB&T Ballpark on a regular basis. Since we are just a month away, I decided to look through the promotional schedule and pick out what I think are the top ten promotions to look forward to this season.
10. “Friends” Themed T-Shirt
July 11: The popular tv show Friends will be featured throughout the game, along with Friends-themed t-shirts that will be given away to the first 2,000 fans.
9. Mookie Wilson Appearance
June 19: Meet 1986 World Series champion Mookie Wilson, the famous New York Met who hit the ground ball that rolled under Bill Buckner’s legs in the ’86 World Series. He will meet fans and sign autographs when the gates open at 6:00 p.m.
8. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat Appearance
June 5: Meet WWE Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat. He held the Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion title in 1987 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009. He will meet fans and sign autographs when the gates open at 6:00 p.m.
7. Andruw Jones Appearance
April 30: Meet Atlanta Braves’ icon Andruw Jones, who played for the Braves from 1996-2007 and was part of so many great years in their historic run. This will be really cool since Charlotte is in Braves country and so many fans have fond memories of the Chipper & Andruw Jones days. He will meet fans and sign autographs when the gates open at 6:00 p.m.
6. “Seinfeld” Themed T-Shirt
August 1: The first 2,000 fans will receive a t-shirt with a Seinfeld theme, arguably the most popular tv show of all time. Fans will also have the chance to meet John O’Hurley, who played J. Peterman on the show, when the gates open at 6:00 p.m.
5. Negro League Players Appearance
April 9: Meet former players from the Negro Leagues on the 6th Annual Negro League night. When the gates open at 6:00 p.m., you can get autographs and talk to the former players. I’m sure these guys have some great memories they are willing to share from their playing days, and there’s nothing like learning history from the actual source.
4. Eloy Jimenez Bobblehead
June 9: The first 2,000 fans will receive an Eloy Jimenez bobblehead. Jimenez is the #3 prospect in baseball, the #1 White Sox prospect, and played 55 games last season for the Knights where he hit .355 with 12 home runs.
3. Tom Guiry Appearance
July 25: When the gates open at 6:00 p.m., fans will have the opportunity to meet and get autographs from Tom Guiry. If you don’t know who Guiry is, you probably know him as Scotty Smalls from the classic baseball move “The Sandlot.” If I’m there that night, I’m getting Tom to sign “Babe Ruth” on a baseball.
2. Homer the Dragon Birthday Bobblehead
April 7: Bobbleheads are always a big draw at the ballpark, so what Knights fan wouldn’t want a Homer the Dragon bobblehead? The first 2,000 fans will receive a Homer the Dragon “30th Birthday” bobblehead and all fans will get to see Homer along with his Charlotte sports mascot friends throughout the game.
1. Pre-Game Catch on the Field
June 8: For thirty minutes after the gates open at 6:00 p.m., fans will have the opportunity to play catch on the Knights field. This is part of “Field of Dreams” night, where fans will also have the opportunity to meet and get autographs from Dwier Brown, who played John Kinsella (Ray Kinsella’s dad) in Field of Dreams. Playing catch on the field is an excellent way to get fans, especially kids, to feel like they are part of the team.
