WWE Power Rankings: Week of April 24th
Another week in the books, and another week of WWE programming to dissect. There were some things from each show that were interesting, but in all reality, it was a pretty stale week for a slate that is just 3 weeks removed from WrestleMania. The Shake-Up continued to take place in this week’s programs, but it seems like that is done with, for now. As far as wrestling shows are concerned, it wasn’t a bad week for programming, but things still seem out of sorts. Storylines are being built, but it seems kind of vague with a few of them. Here are the Power Rankings this week. There are a ton of entries that weren’t on last week’s, so prepare yourself.
- 10: Bayley (NR)
For the first time as a singles competitor, Bayley makes her first appearance on the rankings in 2019. She looked like a totally different performer this week. She looked strong in her mic work and her performance in the ring. I was really hoping to see her win this match, but we are going to see another familiar face fight for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank. Hopefully this is a good sign for the former RAW Women’s Champion.
- 9: Baron Corbin (NR)
Coming in at number 9 this week is a guy that I can see getting a major push pretty soon. I’ve not been the biggest advocate for Corbin, but I think he has a ton of potential. He took part in one of the triple threats on RAW to determine the new number one contender for the Universal Championship and he won the second triple threat against The Miz and Drew McIntyre. He was in the main event and faced AJ Styles to determine who would be fighting for the title at MITB. He looked like he was very close to winning the match and honestly, I had a feeling that he would, but I’ll talk about that a little later on.
- 8: Charlotte Flair (NR)
Charlotte has been on the list a lot times this year, but it is the first time that she has been in the Top 10 since WrestleMania. I don’t really expect her to be on the list in the near future too often, but she will be in a title match against Becky Lynch at Money in the Bank. It definitely isn’t out of the question for the title to change hands, but I think she will hang onto to two titles for at least a couple months. We’ll see.
- 7: Cesaro (NR)
Another first in the list. This is the first time Cesaro has been in the Top 10 as a singles competitor. He is now a member of RAW and The Bar is no longer a team. I really like this move because it gives the two talented superstars a shot at singles championships. He looked really strong this week in a match with Cedric Alexander and I can see him winning the United States Championship pretty soon.
- 6: Robert Roode (NR)
Here is another case of a tag team splitting during the Shake-Up, but it wasn’t the only thing shaken up for Roode. He is referred to as Robert Roode now and he has a mustache now. He has been the subject of a lot of memes this week, but he looked like a big player on Monday night. A lot of people are upset that he defeated Ricochet this week, but I personally don’t think it hurts Ricochet in this case. It does however, make Roode look very strong. We’ll see where this refreshed identity is in the next few weeks, but things are looking good for the Glorious One.
- 5: Bray Wyatt (NR)
Making his first appearance on television in around 8 months, Bray Wyatt had possibly the biggest buzz surrounding his segment on Monday night. He introduced his new character and I have to say, it isn’t what I expected. The best way I could characterize it is a twisted hybrid of Pee-Wee Herman and Mister Rogers. He has a program that he calls the Firefly Fun House and I personally think this will be interesting. If they give him a long leash with this new project, then I think this can be very successful. The thing that I’m most interested in is how they will lead him into action. I’m anxious to see how this plays out.
- 4: Becky Lynch (2)
Another Top 5 for the Champ-Champ, but maybe not for long? She had a match against Alicia Fox on RAW and before the match started, she was interrupted by Lacey Evans. She also appeared on SmackDown and was confronted by Bayley and Charlotte Flair. I am surprised that they are using her this much, because if they milk this double champ thing for a while, they will make her character stale. I hope this doesn’t happen, but will we see her drop one of her titles at the next PPV? I guess we will find out.
- 3: Kofi Kingston (3)
Kofi had a match in the main event of SmackDown against Shinsuke Nakamura, but it ended in a DQ. Last week’s honorary member of New Day turned heel and attacked Kofi. We’ll talk about that a little later, but Kofi may not be champion for much longer. This is just my opinion, but his next opponent looks stronger at the moment. It should be an awesome feud, but I’m not expecting it to be the main event of the next PPV.
- 2: AJ Styles (NR)
The new member of RAW made a big splash on this week’s show. He is the new number one contender after winning the first triple threat and defeating Baron Corbin in the main event. I mentioned in my WrestleMania 35 Reaction article that I thought Styles was likely heading to RAW and I mentioned that everyone wants to see a Styles/Rollins match in the near future. Well, we are getting that match sooner than expected. I am excited to see it, but I seriously thought we wouldn’t see it until at least SummerSlam. I don’t anticipate Rollins dropping the title, but the match should be a show stealer.
- 1: Kevin Owens (5)
After an appearance in the Top 5 last week, Kevin Owens stole the top spot in this week’s rankings. He turned on the New Day and it appears that he will be facing Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship. This legitimately could be the beginning of the end for Kofi’s title reign. The heel turn makes total sense, because WWE has had their troubles in finding a good villain and Kevin Owens is naturally that guy. He is a guy that can do quite a bit and making him champion makes sense at Money in the Bank. A lot of fans will probably be upset that Kofi’s title reign will be this short, but they are seemingly setting Roman Reigns up for a legendary push. It makes sense, whether the majority of fans like it or not.
