The Lakers Might As Well Hire Lebron As Head Coach
Look I’m not an NBA writer but good lord are the Los Angeles Lakers an absolute dumpster fire. Their inability to hire a coach after parting ways with Luke Walton is just the latest chapter in a miserable story since Lebron James joined the team. Who would have thought that adding arguably the best player in the NBA this past offseason would further complicate the dynamic of this organization? To start the Los Angeles Lakers have been a mess since before Kobe retired. Their last playoff appearance was 6 years ago when they got swept by the Spurs in the first round. Bringing Lebron in was supposed to immediately catapult them to the top of the Western Conference but it failed to do that, and for the 6th year in a row the Lakers finish with a sub .500 record. And while Lebron was hurt for some of the season the Lakers finished with just 2 more wins that the previous season at 37-45. Again, not a great look when your’re supposed to be the best player on the planet and you increase your team’s win total from the previous season by 2 games.
Now look I’m not going to go as far as saying that the Lakers would be a better team without Lebron(they probably would), because that roster is pretty bad. It’s got some decent young talent but overall you look at that roster and with how many losing seasons the Lakers have had and you can’t quite grasp how they’ve drafted that bad. But…….once you buy into Lebron, you got to go all in. There’s no dipping your toes in the water when it comes to bringing Lebron James to your team, it’s diving into the deep end that Lebron James is essentially going to run your franchise. Lebron has been a young GM at work since he coordinated the big three move to the Miami Heat. Then he comes back to Cleveland after they land Kyrie via draft and gets Kevin Love along with a handful of other players that will bow to his every command. Only this time he went to LA and left it in Magic Johnson’s hand which turned out to be bringing in players like Lance Stephenson, Rajon Rondo and Javale McGee. Lebron made it publicly known he wanted to trade the entire team just like any good teammate would, because why not? Luke Walton would end up taking the blame while Magic laughed about not telling anybody his plans to quit, so he could focus his attention on firing off the most generic tweets you’ve seen in your life. One would think for sure that Tyronn Lue would be chomping at the bit to get back into coaching considering he’s probably a pretty bad coach and no other team would want him, but not even he wanted the Lakers job. Not even Tyronn Lue, the man that won a championship thanks to Lebron, or Draymond Green getting suspended or Kyrie Irving playing the series of his life, wanted to come back and be the guy taking orders from Lebron. And that leaves the Lakers with one and one option only, to make Lebron the first player coach in the NBA since Dave Cowens in 1979. No point in just bringing somebody in to be a warm body. Just cut to the chase and give the fans and Lebron what he wants. Granted Lebron also wants the keys to the GM spot as well so might should even throw that in as well.
PS, I may or may not be biased
