NBA Lottery Thoughts from a Knicks Fan

The NBA lottery pick orders have been decided with the top 5 teams being the New Orleans Pelicans, Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Once again the Knicks have fallen short of the coveted number one pick. The obvious choice for the number draft pick will be Zion Williamson from Duke. After that, there is Ja Morant from Murray State and RJ Barrett from Duke.

The question now is, Who will the Knicks take? The Knicks posted the worst record during the regular season with 17 wins and 65 losses. With a lot of movement in during the NBA season, I felt a sense of comfort knowing we would most likely get the number 1 pick and bring Zion Williamson to MSG. After tonight, that comfort has changed. So what's next?

Will the Knicks be able to land some of the big names that are looking for a change? If you're not familiar, I am referring to Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant. There has been a lot of talk around the rumor mill of bringing in 1 or more of these allstar athletes. These options are still on the table as the Knicks have the available cap space.

The Knicks have had a rocky road with their last winning season being in 2012-2013 when Carmelo Anthony average 28 points per game. That season the Knicks lost to the Indiana Pacers in game 6 of the conference semifinals. Like many Knicks fans, I have been waiting patiently to become contenders again. This is a wild thought, but could the Knicks sign 2 out of the 3 big name players and bring back Carmelo Anthony? Would that work? Anthony left the Knicks on good terms and he could be a lost cost valuable asset in a return to the team.

Overall I think the lottery system is terrible. When you have a team that's that bad how can you not get the number 1 pick? Do you know when the last time the Knicks won the first overall pick?... Don't worry you might not have been born then, I wasn't. It was 1985 when the team drafted Patrick Ewing out of Georgetown....

Luckily I have learned the patience is a virtue and good things come to those who wait... I just hope the wait is over. Tune in to The Sports Chiefs twitter @thesportschief on draft day 6/20/19 for draft thoughts.
