2019 Money in the Bank Results and Reaction

The PPV last night had ups and downs, but for the most part, it was a really good show. Even though there were 13 matches, it went by fairly quickly, which was refreshing. It had the right amount of predictability and surprise and it kept me intrigued throughout the show. We got to see a cash-in attempt and two titles changes. I’m gonna breakdown each match and grade each one.

-      Men’s Tag Team Match

Daniel Bryan and Rowan vs. The Usos

This was the only match on the pre-show and it did the job. It got everyone excited for the main show, even though there wasn’t a title on the line. It wasn’t a spectacular match, but it was good enough in the spot it was in. The match doesn’t really do anything for either team at the moment, so we’ll see where these teams will be in the next few weeks.

-      Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Natalya vs. Dana Brooke vs. Naomi vs Mandy Rose vs. Carmella vs. Ember Moon vs. Bayley vs. Nikki Cross

WWE

WWE

This was a great way to kick off the show. Going into the match, I didn’t have a clue who was going to win and that is a great thing for a match like this. Even though Bayley was the favorite, nothing indicated to me that she was a lock. There was a great deal of things going on within the match. Carmella had an injury, which may actually be real, and Ember Moon had a memorable spot within the match. I didn’t really have any competitor in this match that I was rooting for, but Bayley winning made sense.

-      Men’s Singles Match – United States Championship

Samoa Joe (C) vs. Rey Mysterio

This was another quick match, but in favor of the other competitor. Rey Mysterio wins his first United States Championship and it looks like we will get at least one more match between the two. I like this feud at the moment and Mysterio’s son looks like he may be a part of the feud, which is interesting. With that being said, it wasn’t a great match.

-      Men’s Singles Match – Steel Cage

Shane McMahon vs. The Miz

WWE

WWE

I have made my point about this feud in the past, but I’ll say it again. This rivalry has been way overdone. These two have been in a storyline for over 6 months and it appears that it isn’t over. It should’ve been over nearly two months ago, but Shane winning and the way he won didn’t do anything. It was a serviceable match, but the result and ending was not good, not to mention the rope break in steel cage match… I’ll jot it down as the worst match of the night.

-      Men’s Singles Match – Cruiserweight Championship

Tony Nese (C) vs. Ariya Daivari

This match was solid, but there was no build for it on the main roster spotlight. It also has been a while since 205 Live has had a match in the main portion of the show. Tony Nese retaining was the right move here. He seems like he could have a rather lengthy reign, which would be totally acceptable. I’m not sure who is next for Nese, but the cruiserweights usually put on a good show.

-      Women’s Singles Match – RAW Women’s Championship

Becky Lynch (C) vs. Lacey Evans

WWE

WWE

The first of the two Becky Lynch matches was a success. Both superstars looked good in the ring and I thought both were equally utilized. This result was expected, because Evans is not quite ready for a title reign, but I don’t think she is far off. I want to see more from these two in the future.

-      Women’s Singles Match – SmackDown Women’s Championship

Becky Lynch (C) vs. Charlotte Flair

WWE

WWE

This was a surprising twist to Lynch’s two title defenses. Charlotte Flair came down the ramp and wanted the match to happen right after Becky’s first title defense. Every matchup between these two is usually good and this was no exception. If Lynch was going to lose one of her titles, I knew it would be this one, but what followed next was the most interesting part of the Women’s division moving forward in the next few weeks.

-      Women’s Singles Match (MITB Cash-In) – SmackDown Women’s Championship

Charlotte Flair (C) vs. Bayley

This segment totally worked. Having Bayley cash in last night was a huge success and many fans are excited, because this gives a fresh slate to the SmackDown Women’s division. Now we wait and see how long Bayley holds the title.

-      Men’s Singles Match

Roman Reigns vs. Elias

This portion of the show was solid. It gave Elias a solid amount of time to create his own spot and it made Roman Reigns look like a big-time player. It is no secret that Roman will be in the title picture very soon, but I think after this feud, Elias needs a serious push. They need to quit booking him as a laughing stock, because I think he could be a legitimate competitor.

-      Men’s Singles Match – Universal Championship

Seth Rollins (C) vs. AJ Styles

WWE

WWE

Rollins vs. Styles was everything the fans anticipated and then some. The result was predictable, but they made it very interesting. It had the longest run time, but deservingly so, It was definitely Match of the Night caliber and one that could go down as a historical match between two of the best to ever get in the ring. I mentioned this before in other articles and I’ll say it again, I want to see more of these two.

-      Men’s Singles Match – WWE Championship

Kofi Kingston (C) vs. Kevin Owens

WWE

WWE

This was a wonderful match and I’m glad to see Kofi is still the WWE Champion. I wouldn’t have minded if Owens took the title, but Kofi Kingston is on a roll. I hope he can have a good title reign and it appears that they may actually give him a chance as champion. He is proving that he can hang with top level talent and proving to the WWE Universe that he is a formidable champion. I’m interested to see who he faces next.

-      Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Randy Orton vs. Ali vs. Finn Bálor vs. Ricochet vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Baron Corbin vs. Andrade vs. Brock Lesnar                         *MATCH OF THE NIGHT*

WWE

WWE

There was no way that I could pass this up as Match of the Night. With that being said, I hated the outcome. This was a roller coaster of a setup during the course of the PPV and even more of a roller coaster of a match. There were a lot of hard bumps and entertaining moments throughout the match. Some are even calling this Match of the Year. I don’t think I would go that far personally, but it isn’t far off. The winner of the match wasn’t advertised for the match, which I don’t have a problem with, but it was the person who won it. Brock Lesnar winning this match isn’t what fans wanted to see and him having the briefcase only sets progress back. If they feature him properly it will be a success, but I doubt they will do that. This looks like it could be something to do with SmackDown’s move to FOX, but I can’t see this helping fan interest, especially during a time in which they are enduring ratings drops.
