Stanley Cup Game 1 Recap
So the Stanley Cup Final got underway last night and it was quite the bang if your a Boston Bruins fan. Not so much if you’re a fan of the St. Louis Blues. Coming into this game there was a lot of talk about the rust that the Bruins might have with their 10 day layoff after sweeping the Carolina Hurricanes, and to start the game this appeared to be true. The Bruins looked sluggish and played a pretty poor first period allowing the Blues to take a 1-0 lead. Coming out of the first intermission, the Blues continued their dominance and took 2-0 lead with a Vladimir Taresenko goal after an awful turnover by the Bruins behind their own net. The Blues looked every bit of stealing game one on the road in Boston but then things went south. You know what they say, a 2 goal lead is the worst in hockey and that turned out true for the Blues. The Bruins snagged a goal barely a minute after going down 2 goals, thanks to their 4th line. Then after countless power plays, the Bruins were finally able to capitalize and tie the game up courtesy of Charlie McAvoy with roughly 7 mins remaining in the 2nd period. The game winner came just 5 mins into the 3rd period from the 4th line again. This time it was Sean Kuraly who was the #1 star of the game. The Bruins would eventually hold off any Blues attack and add a 4th goal in the dying minutes of the game with an empty netter.

In the end it was a huge game one, in my opinion, for the Boston Bruins. I was really nervous that the team would be rusty and that they’d lose game 1. Fortunately that rust didn’t last the whole game and the Bruins pick up the big W. The 4th line was the difference maker in this first game and it’s really no surprise as they showed up time and time again throughout these playoffs. Game 2 starts Wednesday night at 8 oclock. Will the Bruins sweep the first two home games or will the Blues manage to split the series and pick up a win on the road?
Also how about this hit by Torey Krug
