Last night Mike Trout hit yet another grand slam. Great stuff as a fan of the game, not great stuff if your playing against Trout in fantasy, which I am of course. But it’s not necessarily the home run itself that sticks out so much because that’s a typical night at the plate for Trout but rather the stat of Trout’s career batting average with bases loaded that made the rounds. In 69 career at bats with the bases loaded, Mike Trout is hitting with an incredible .420 batting average. His slashline with bases loaded is .420/.463/.811. He has 93 total career plate appearances with bases loaded with 6 career grandslams, 24 walks and has an incredible 101 rbis. He’s so lethal at the plate with bases loaded that he’s drawing walks roughly 25% of the time because pitchers would rather give up a run instead of having Trout drive in 3 or 4. Because let’s be serious, any walk with bases loaded is essentially an intentional walk. Last but not least, maybe the most impressive stat of the entire bunch is that Mike Trout has only grounded into a double play once in 93 plate appearances. Mike Trout is pretty much a sure thing to when he comes to the plate but even more so when the bases are loaded. It’s a shame that year in and year out the Angels can’t surround this man with a better team to get the undisputed best player in baseball into the playoffs.
