WWE Power Rankings: Week of June 27th
Stomping Grounds was a great PPV on Sunday and Monday Night RAW was pretty solid as well. SmackDown wasn’t great, but hopefully we will start to see some changes with Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff taking charge of the shows. We got a surprise appearance from Undertaker on RAW, which was pretty interesting and it appears that we will see him in action in a few weeks to team with Roman Reigns. Attendance numbers are down at shows, but hopefully there will be some changes made to ensure the best product is being shown. Here are my Power Rankings for this week.
- 10: AJ Styles (NR)
AJ Styles is back and action and we are starting to see him get involved with his fellow Bullet Club members in recent weeks. This is good for Anderson and Gallows, because they haven’t been utilized in the best capacity over the last year or so. He didn’t have a match on Sunday, but he and Ricochet fought in a non-title match and Styles was the winner. The match was great and I hope to see more out of these two in the near future.
- 9: Ricochet (3)
Ricochet is starting to become a star on the main roster. I knew it was just a matter of time. His victory Sunday night was somewhat of a surprise, but obviously it wasn’t out of the question. He and Styles put on an excellent match in the main event of RAW, but he lost the match. The only reason I ranked Ricochet above Styles was because of his title win. Hopefully they use this as an opportunity to get Ricochet more over, because Styles is the perfect opponent to put someone like Ricochet over.
- 8: Heavy Machinery (NR)
I am glad we’re seeing Heavy Machinery in the spotlight. They are starting to view them as more of a legitimate contender and this is a refreshing sight. Otis and Tucker work great together and they are a great mix of old school and new school. They lost on Sunday, but they looked great in their match. They team with The New Day on Tuesday night and they were winners in the 8-Man bout. Hopefully we keep seeing more of this team.
- 7: Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross (5, NR)
I debated whether to even put these two in the Top 10, but they are consuming a good portion of each show in the last few weeks. Alexa Bliss lost in her match at Stomping Grounds, but the team has remained strong throughout the week. At some point, these two are obviously going to go their separate ways, but for now, they are a good team. They are nearly complete opposites, but using someone like Alexa Bliss to get Nikki Cross over is a smart move.
- 6: Bayley (NR)
Much like Ricochet, the only reason that Bayley is ranked higher than her opponents is because of her win at Stomping Grounds. We are seeing a new and edgier Bayley in the last few weeks and it is getting interesting. It seems like she may have a fairly decent reign as champion, but only time will tell. She is doing great so far as the holder of the gold.
- 5: Kofi Kingston (2)
His match Sunday with Dolph Ziggler was nothing special, in fact it was almost boring. They redeemed their selves on SmackDown. The two put on a great match and it appears that Dolph Ziggler is leaving the title picture. It looks like Samoa Joe is getting a solo shot at the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules and he deserves it. Joe is an underrated performer and deserved to be more than a mid-card talent to get over more mid-card talent. Kofi is doing a great job as champion and he has held the title longer than I expected. Keep up the good work Kofi.
- 4: Lacey Evans (NR)
The Sassy Southern Belle has been heavily involved in the main storylines of both shows. She lost on Sunday in her match against Becky Lynch, but was utilized later as the Special Guest Referee in the Universal Championship match. Her alliance with Baron Corbin makes total sense and I am just going to sit back and see where this is heading. The top two heels are clashing with the top two faces, what could be better at the moment?
- 3: Baron Corbin (8)
Corbin has gained so much heat over the last few weeks. He has solidified himself as the top heel, with the exception of maybe Shane McMahon, in the WWE. He has performed well in his contention for the title and it looks like this feud is just getting started.
- 2: Becky Lynch (9)
I’m kind of surprised that we are seeing the WWE acknowledge Lynch’s and Rollins’ real-life relationship, but if they are gearing more towards a realistic product, then this is the perfect thing to do. Lynch defeated Evans in a match for her RAW Women’s Championship in the opener of Stomping Grounds and regained some swagger at the end of the show. At Extreme Rules, Lynch will be teaming up with Seth Rollins to face Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans in a Winner-Takes-All Mixed Tag Team Match. This should be very entertaining and we’ll see which team emerges victorious in a few weeks.
- 1: Seth Rollins (1)
i couldn’t think of a better option at number one this week. He holds on to the spot after being number one last week. Rollins retained at Stomping Grounds, thanks in large part to Becky Lynch and the momentum is staying with him. He made rounds this week on social media for sticking up for the WWE. Not that this is a total shock, but we are clearly seeing Rollins emerging as a possible locker room leader and a potential face of the brand. Rollins has never been my personal favorite, but I have always recognized his talent and he has a ton of it. It is good to see someone like him stepping up at a time where fans are losing interest in the product. I think he should have a decent reign as champion and hopefully become bigger figure coming out of it.
