2019 Extreme Rules Predictions
It appears that were are seeing a new era ushered in for the WWE, at least I hope so. I am pumped for the PPV tonight and the handful of matches with no-DQ stipulations should be a sight to see. We may see titles change hands and storylines change in an instant. Each PPV is unique in it own way, but I hope to see some extreme stuff featured on this show tonight. Here are my predictions for Extreme Rules. I hope you guys enjoy!
*Match Card is likely not in the correct order
*Predicted winners are bolded
- Men’s Single Match: Cruiserweight Championship
Drew Gulak (C) vs. Tony Nese
This seems like a no-brainer for the Kickoff Show. Drew Gulak just won the Cruiserweight Championship at Stomping Grounds, so I don’t think that he’ll lose the title this soon into his title reign. It should be a great match to get the crowd excited for the main portion of the program.
- Men’s Tag Team Match: RAW Tag Team Championship
The Revival (C) vs. The Usos
This should be another classic match between two of the best teams in the company. The Usos haven’t been RAW Tag Team Champions since 2014, so they could pull out a victory here, but I think The Revival hang on to the titles just a little while longer. This was a late entry onto the card, so we may see this match in the kickoff show.
- Men’s Singles Match
Aleister Black vs. Cesaro
I am really excited for this contest. Aleister Black is finally starting his career as a singles competitor on the main roster in this match and there aren’t many superstars on the roster better to start with than Cesaro. Both guys are going to get a chance to shine in this one, but I think it is pretty clear that Aleister Black will win here. I don’t really see a scenario where Cesaro getting the win does anything for him, but a win for Black gives him momentum moving forward.
- Men’s Singles Match: United States Championship
Ricochet (C) vs. AJ Styles
This was probably my most difficult decision. Do they keep giving Ricochet momentum or do they push The Club? It’s hard to say for certain. My reason behind having Ricochet retain is the fact that The Club will attack him after the match is over. We could also get a draw of some kind, like maybe a count-out. I really hope they don’t bring out a DQ, because that would be rather lame at an event like Extreme Rules.
- Last Man Standing Match
Braun Strowman vs. Bobby Lashley
I could see this going one of two ways. Braun Strowman winning outright or neither of them winning. Strowman winning makes a ton of sense, but unless they have something crazy planned for Lashley in the near future, I can’t see him winning. It should be another interesting showing, but I hope to see a spot like we did on RAW a couple weeks ago.
- Women’s 2-on-1 Handicap Match: SmackDown Women’s Championship
Bayley (C) vs Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross
This was another difficult decision, but I ultimately came to the conclusion that Bayley will retain here. I do think Sasha Banks will play some kind of role in this contest, but I could see it going a couple of ways. She could aid Bayley if she were to ever get overwhelmed or she could somehow turn on Bayley. It is no secret that Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks don’t like each other, in real life, so maybe they could use that real-life tension to sell a fight. There are a few roads that they can choose to go down with this story.
- Men’s Triple Threat Tag Team Match: SmackDown Tag Team Championship
Daniel Bryan and Rowan (C) vs. The New Day vs. Heavy Machinery
I think it is time for a title change in this match. Daniel Bryan and Rowan don’t have any momentum right now, but Heavy Machinery has a ton of it. I can’t really see this going any other way to be honest. Otis is so far over at the moment and anything less than a victory would be a huge disappointment here.
- Men’s Singles Match: WWE Championship
Kofi Kingston (C) vs. Samoa Joe
This could go a few different ways. A couple weeks ago, I could’ve seen Samoa Joe taking the title her, but I think Kofi will retain. Kofi has held the title for 98 days, which is a pretty decent run, however, I think he actually could lose it tonight. Paul Heyman announced that Lesnar would be cashing in at Extreme Rules, which could be a lie, but if he does, I think it will be in this match. I said in a few other articles that I think Lesnar will cash in on Kofi, because I didn’t trust the idea of them pushing him towards the Universal Championship again. Putting Lesnar in the WWE title picture gives them more to work with creatively and it won’t be the same matchups we’ve seen over the last couple years. That is, if he successfully cashes in. Kofi has been on the mend with a back injury, so I hope he holds up fine during this match.
- No Hold Barred Men’s Tag Team Match
The Undertaker and Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre
Taker and Reigns are heavy favorites, but I think this one could go either way. Do they get us to hate Shane more? Or will they set up something for Undertaker at SummerSlam? They may do both. It makes more sense to me that Reigns and Undertaker get the win, but I’m not sure why we are seeing Undertaker at this PPV. Hopefully we get more insight as to why he is fighting tonight, because at the moment it is very random for him to show up to aid Roman Reigns.
- Winners Take All Extreme Rules Mixed Tag Team Match: Universal and RAW Women’s Championship
Seth Rollins (C) and Becky Lynch (C) vs. Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans
Rollins and Lynch are heavy favorites and I can’t see this match going any other way. I wouldn’t mind seeing Corbin and Evans getting the win here personally, but I just don’t think it is going to happen. I don’t know what will be next for the champs, but I think we are in it for the long run for Lynch and Rollins as champs. They’ve built Lynch up to be virtually unbeatable, so I highly doubt that Lacey Evans will become the new champ at the moment. It should be a fun matchup in the extreme rules format, but don’t expect the titles to change hands tonight.
