Song of the Day: Somebody to Love

Continuing with our Woodstock theme, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the most famous music festival in history, I chose “Somebody to Love” by Jefferson Airplane. In the mid to late 60s, Jefferson Airplane was huge in the hippie-music scene and even formed in the hippie capital of America, San Francisco. They were originally scheduled to headline Saturday’s lineup (the 2nd day) at Woodstock, but ended up playing at 8 a.m. the next morning (the same time this was posted), which lead singer Grace Slick called “morning maniac music.” I was close to choosing their hit “White Rabbit” because I thought that was an excellent performance as well, but maybe I’ll save that for another song of the day. Happy Woodstock week!
