Nathan Peterman Is Defintiely Seeing The Field This Year
If you’re not familiar with Nathan Peterman, he’s the NFL quarterback who is famous for throwing 5 interceptions in the first half of an NFL game. This occurred back in 2017 in the middle of a playoff race for the Buffalo Bills, where they decided to sit Tyrod Taylor and give rookie Nathan Peterman a shot to give their offense a spark. It obviously ended in a disaster and that was pretty much the end of the Nathan Peterman experience…..for 2017. Jump to the start of last season and with Tyrod Taylor gone and new rookie QB Josh Allen not getting the start, the Buffalo Bills once more went with Peterman to start the year. In that game he would go 5 for 18 with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. The Bills also lost 47-3. After that, Josh Allen was named the starter and Peterman got moved to back up, other than a few games throughout the season where Allen was hurt and Peterman filled in. Those games weren’t much better and he finished the year 44 for 81, a 54% completion %, 296 yds, 1 TD and 7 Ints. Through his first 2 years in the NFL he had just 4 NFL starts and appeared in 8 games, and it appeared that his NFL career could very well be over.
Fast forward to this offseason where none other than Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders have decided to sign Nathan Peterman. No surprise at all, Nathan Peterman is lighting it up in preseason and John Gruden is loving every minute of it. So far this preseason he has gone 40 for 57 for 317 yds and 3 TDs. Gruden’s exact quote “Look at it yourself. He’s hitting 75 percent of his passes. The ones that are incomplete are dropped. I mean, he runs, he passes, he’s making audibles. He’s getting better and he’s getting some confidence. He’s in the mix. I like him. I know other people that do, too.” Then you combine that with the fact that Jon Gruden isn’t the biggest fan of starting quarter back Derek Carr, and we are 100% seeing Nathan Peterman this year in the black and silver. Who knows, maybe it won’t be the disaster it’s been previous (it more than likely will). I’m not defending his Buffalo performances but it wasn’t exactly the greatest situation and maybe he was thrown into the fire too soon. All I know that when Peterman’s time comes, and it definitely will, I will definitely be watching for better or worse.
