Song of the Day: We Didn't Start the Fire

Starting your Monday morning with a classic Billy Joel tune, “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” Not only is this a very catchy song, but it alludes to over 100 historical worldly events from 1949-1989. So listen to this song (but listen real closely) and you’ll get a very rapid, but vague, modern world history lesson. The reason all events in this song take place between 1949 and 1989 is because ‘49 was the year Billy Joel was born and ‘89 was the year the song was released. I’ve always enjoyed this song, especially as a history guy, and will always be impressed at how Billy Joel remembers the lyrics when he performs it in concerts. I like to think that someday I’ll be able to rattle off all the lyrics to it.
