Attention Checkers fans, it’s about that time of year again and for the first time ever, our Charlotte Checkers will be defending the Calder Cup.  In just over two weeks, the Checkers will play their first regular season game of the season.  It will be on the road against the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday, October 5.  Six days later will feature the 2029/2020 season home opener as the Checkers will take on Bridgeport Sound Tigers on home ice at the Bojangles Coliseum.

You’ll want to go ahead and clear your calendar for that October 11th, season home opener.  Not only will it have the surrounding opening night buzz, it will also be the game they raise they 2018/2019 championship banner.  Additionally, mini banners will be given away to fans as they walk through the door.  On November 9th after the game against Springfield, fans will be given the opportunity to go down on the ice for photo opportunities.  Even cooler, on December 1st, fans will have the opportunity to take the ice for a post-game skate with the players.

Many details are still to be released about this year’s promotional schedule, but fans will still be able to enjoy a lot of the same promotions as last year.  There are various Teacher Appreciation Nights, College Nights, and Family Nights, where tickets will be sold at a discounted rate to the included people.  Winning Wednesdays are back and will feature $1 beers and free tickets to the team’s next Wednesday game if they win.  January 14th is also a day to circle on your Checkers calendar.  It will be 1950s night with plenty of 50s themes.  But the best part will be the 1950s-themed ticket prices that will start at only $1.

Other promotional nights to take note of are 90s night (Nov. 8), military appreciation night (Nov. 9), Star Wars night (Dec. 14), golf night (Dec. 21), 704 night (Jan. 18), NASCAR night (Jan. 25), beach night (Mar. 6), and Chubby’s birthday (Mar. 15).  On March 14th Calder Cup Champion hats will be included in certain ticket packages and the fan-favorite Teddy Bear toss will be held on November 30th.  Details on many of the promotional nights are yet to be released, so make sure you keep an eye on the schedule as the season progresses.

It’s a very exciting time to be a Charlotte Checkers fan.  There will be some new faces this year, on the roster and coaching staff, but it should be another great year for the Checkers.  And the energy the fans bring to Bojangles Coliseum make it an unbelievably fun atmosphere to be a part of.  We cannot wait to get back to the Coliseum for games this season and see everyone there.  Let’s continue to prove that Charlotte is a great city for hockey.  Go Checkers!
