3 Things to Do in Charlotte This Weekend
In this series I highlight three things to do for the people in the Charlotte, NC area and anyone who may be visiting our awesome city this weekend. Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in America with plenty to offer everyone. So let’s take a look at three things you can do this weekend (Friday, January 17th through Sunday, January 19th):
1. Charlotte Checkers Hockey Games (Saturday & Sunday)
Your Charlotte Checkers are at home this weekend with a two-game series against the Toronto Marlies on Saturday and Sunday. The Checkers have been playing extremely well of late and are one of the hottest teams in the AHL at the moment. Come out to support the defending Calder Cup champions at Bojangles’ Coliseum as they look to stay hot. Saturday’s game time is set for 6 p.m. and Sunday’s will be at 1 p.m. Tickets for each game start at $18.50 per person. Also, Saturday night will be “Charlotte Night” where special limited-edition “CLT” themed t-shirts will be available for purchase.
2. North Carolina State Pinball Championship (Saturday)
Calling all pinball fans, Abari Game Bar on N. Davidson Street in Charlotte will be hosting the pinball state championship on Saturday. The tournament will feature the top 24 players in North Carolina and they will compete head-to-head in best of seven series. It will begin at 11 a.m. and last approximately until 7 p.m. It is open to everyone for free to come and cheer on the participants. So come, grab a drink, and see which pinball player will represent our great state of North Carolina at the U.S. National Pinball Championship on March 5th in Denver, Colorado.

3. See Blackbeard Artifacts on Display (All Weekend)
This one actually takes place in Spencer, NC, about an hour from Charlotte, but it’s too cool not to share. A traveling exhibit that features artifacts from Blackbeard’s famous Queen Anne’s Revenge ship will be displayed at the NC Transportation Museum from January 16-March 29. These artifacts include weapons, personal items, and nautical tools from the ship that sank along the Outer Banks in 1718. There will also be many touchscreens where visitors can watch and listen to Blackbeard’s story and how the ship was recovered. In addition, many hands-on activities will be offered for kids to make this a great family outing. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors/military members, $4 for children 3-12, and free for kids aged 2 and under.
