WWE Power Rankings: Week of January 4th 2020
Like I mentioned in the AEW Power Rankings, I’m a little behind on the Power Rankings, but they should return back to normal schedule this coming week. RAW and SmackDown last week were both fun to watch, but I thought RAW was exceptionally good. NXT was just an award show, which was fine, but they missed out on some action that the other two shows had. I just want to remind everyone that this will not include the actions from last night’s RAW.
10: Lana, Bobby Lashley, Rusev, and Liv Morgan
Whether you like this story or not, it has been a present factor each Monday night. This week was probably the most interesting, due to the fact that Liv Morgan was added to the equation. This all goes back to wanting to garner a reaction, whether it is positive or negative. WWE fans feel strongly both ways about this storyline and that shows it is working
9: The Usos
We didn’t know exactly when The Usos were returning, but we knew it was bound to happen soon enough. They returned to help out their cousin Roman Reigns after he was getting attacked in the main event of SmackDown. They will be a welcomed addition to SmackDown and I’m interested to see if Naomi will be added along with them.
8: Andrade
It appears that Andrade is in for a big 2020 and he defeated Ricochet last week to prove it. We were kind of led to believe that Zelina Vega was splitting away from him, but I guess she is going to still manage him.
7: The Street Profits
The Street Profits had a good win against The O.C. last week and I thought that they were going to be RAW Tag champs this week on RAW, but it didn’t go that way. I think they’ll have a big year coming up and I think it is a given that they’ll win at least one tag title this year.
6: Samoa Joe
Samoa Joe made a big return, but didn’t actually wrestle in a match. He came to aid Kevin Owens as he was getting attacked by AOP. It gave an interesting look into a potential pairing of Owens and Joe and we should see that within the next few weeks.
5: Drew McIntyre
McIntyre made a big impact last Monday night against the duo of Ryder and Hawkins. He defeated the team in a handicap match and it showed him as a powerful performer. Not that he needed this showing, but it helps keep him fresh heading into the Royal Rumble
4: Dana Brooke and Lacey Evans
Brooke and Evans picked up a big win last Friday against Sasha Banks and Bayley and the team of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross. This pinball win meant a lot to both of them but Dana Brooke getting the win meant a tremendous amount. It will be interesting to see if more comes of this.
3: Adam Cole
Cole is the only NXT member on the the Rankings this week and it is only because he dominated the Award Show last Wednesday. Cole was the best NXT performer of 2019 by far and he could even be thrown into the discussion of best in WWE.
2: Randy Orton
Orton’s injury angle last week was very interesting. We haven’t seen anything like that in a while in the WWE. In the back of mind, I expected everything that happened, but part of me still didn’t expect to see it happen. Great angle and great storytelling here.
1: Aleister Black
The number one spot goes to the winner of the best match of the week. Aleister Black and Buddy Murphy had another wonderful contest, but I think this one was the best yet. I’d like to see Black get a big push at the Royal Rumble in a few weeks.
