AEW Power Rankings: Week of October 15th 2020
AEW Dynamite celebrated their 1-year anniversary this week and it was a loaded show. All of the belts were defended on Wednesday night and there were a few solid matches to choose from. Also, there appears to be some feuds building up more, possibly for the upcoming Full Gear PPV. I guess we’'ll see in the coming weeks, but here are the ranking for Wednesday’s action.
5: Hikaru Shida
Shida defended her title this week against Big Swole and like all of the other title matches on the card, this one never was in doubt. Big Swole has proven herself as a worthy opponent, but she just isn’t quite ready to be the AEW Women’s World Champion. Down the road, we’ll see if things develop in her favor, but this week just wasn’t her time yet.
4: MJF/Chris Jericho
MJF and Chris Jericho didn’t have a match, but delivered the most entertaining promo segment of the night. Next week, they’re going to sit down for a steak dinner and the possibility of MJF joining The Inner Circle is going to be the main topic of discussion. Do I think he will? Absolutely not.
3:FTR
FTR faced Best Friends and put their titles on the line. The defended them successfully and moving forward, it looks like The Young Bucks are going to be the only team to stand in their way. I don’t know if that is the match that we’ll see at Full Gear, but I think it would be one of the most interesting matches on the card.
2: Cody/Orange Cassidy
Cody and OC squared off for the TNT championship and it ended in a time limit draw. I think that this was the best outcome for a match like this. It didn’t hurt either competitor, but in the same sense, it doesn’t really help person. It looks like Darby Allin may be next in line for the TNT Championship.
1: Jon Moxley
Moxley faced Lance Archer in the main event for the AEW World Championship. The match was turned into a no-DQ match. The match was solid for a TV match and it appears that Eddie Kingston is next in line to get a rematch for the belt. I’m still not sure if it’s going to be the PPV matchup or if they’ll schedule a match within the next couple weeks, but it still should be good regardless.
