The Office Halloween Scene You’ve Never Seen Before

NBC

NBC

Halloween season is in full swing with just five days until the spooky holiday.  It’s the time of year where people re-watch their favorite Halloween tv episodes, and The Office has plenty of them.  So many, in fact, I was curious to know how other people had them ranked.  So, I searched and found several ranking lists, but was confused when I saw the season six episode “Koi Pond” pop up in several of them.  I’ve watched The Office all the way through several times and know for a fact there are no Halloween scenes in that episode.  Upon a little research, I found the Halloween scene in which I had never seen, or heard of, before.

The scene in question is the opening scene, after which there are no signs of Halloween throughout the episode.  But in this scene the Dunder-Mifflin employees put on a haunted house in the warehouse for the children of the business park workers.  As a matter of fact, you should just give it a watch yourself…

First of all, Michael’s costume…you have to love it because nobody else would wear it except for him, especially with the children present.  Nobody else has that immature sense of humor.  Secondly, you have to love the “gangster pumpkin,” introduction which causes Darryl to give a dissatisfied face to the camera.  Once again, things like that are what make Michael so great throughout his time on the show.

Digging even deeper, you have Creed being Creed (by being extra creepy with the blood), Jim being Jim (with his effortless attempt at a Halloween costume by being ‘Facebook’), and Dwight being Dwight (by having on a very realistic, extravagant Halloween costume with Jigsaw).

Bost most importantly in this scene, we have Michael being Michael which is why the scene was ultimately deleted and not very many people have ever seen it.  His pretending to hang himself in front of the children to spread a “positive message” was deemed too much by the public when it first aired on tv in 2009.  Shortly thereafter, the scene was deleted from the show in every viewing capacity, including not being included on the DVD box set when it was released the following year.

I can see why the scene was deleted, but also don’t think it necessarily should have.  That is one of the reasons why The Office is such a great show…because it has so much humor in it that would cause so many of today’s people to get upset at.  With the “offensive” culture being ever so present in today’s society, it is very refreshing to watch The Office and just think how it was an absolute phenomenon just 10-15 years ago.  Anyway, if you haven’t ever seen that Halloween scene, I hope you enjoyed it.  Now, you should go watch the rest of The Office Halloween specials.

Just for fun, here are my rankings for The Office Halloween episodes (from worst to best), not including Koi Pond, since the scene was deleted.

5. Employee Transfer (Season 5, Episode 5)

4. Here Comes Treble (Season 9, Episode 5)

3. Spooked (Season 8, Episode 5)

2. Costume Contest (Season 7, Episode 6)

1. Halloween (Season 2, Episode 5)
