Survivor Series (2020) Results and Reaction
Last night was a great night for wrestling and it turns out that it was one of the best show in quite a while. Some people may disagree, but I thought that this was one of the best PPVs in the last few years. There weren’t many weaknesses in the show and everything seemed to click. It seems like everything went according as planned and that made the show flow a lot better. Even the kickoff show match was good. Here are the results of the show and my reaction to it all.
- 18-Man Battle Royal
WINNER: The Miz
Usually, Battle Royals aren’t show stealer and that wasn’t the case in this one, but it was very good. There were a lot of guys in this match that fans want to see get a push, but there could only be one winner. Mr. MITB got the win, but he wasn’t the true winner. Dominik Mysterio was the true winner of this match. He proved that he belongs in the ring and he was showcased last night. I’m interested to see what happens with him in the near future, but I think he could be the real deal and a good guy that fans can get behind. Chad Gable also looked great in this match, and I think we could see a decent push with him coming up. This win doesn’t do a thing for The Miz except keep him fresh in the fans minds, but I think most fans are wondering when he will cash in that briefcase.

- Men’s 5-on-5 Elimination Tag Match
Team RAW over Team SmackDown
SmackDown didn’t stand a chance in the match and didn’t even eliminate one opponent. SmackDown was just too dysfunctional from the start and it showed. I could see big things from these guys moving forward and hopefully we see guys like Keith Lee getting title shots within the next year or so. A lot of people probably thought that Rollins sacrificing himself was stupid, but I think it was the right move. He is taking a leave of absence and this gives him a shot to refresh his character when he returns. These matches open up opportunities for lesser featured talent to get showcased more and that was the case with Otis and Jey Uso. Although Uso has been featured a lot lately, Otis hasn’t and he showed that he can hang with some of the best in the WWE.

- Men’s Champion vs. Champion Non-Title Tag Team Match
The Street Profits over The New Day
This match was wonderful. Going into the show, this was my darkhorse pick to steal the show. While it wasn’t the match of the night, it wasn’t far off. It never stopped in the nearly 14 minutes that it lasted. We probably won’t see these two teams facing each other often, but I’m glad we got a chance to see it last night. Also, the Gear of War attire from New Day was awesome. Superb match.

- Men’s Champion vs. Champion Non-Title Singles Match
Bobby Lashley over Sami Zayn
I wasn’t expecting a whole lot in this match, but it turned out to be solid. Sami Zayn tried to pull all of his natural tricks, but they weren’t going to work on Lashley and The Hurt Business. This was the shortest match on the card and going into the show, I fully expected it to be. Lashley proved that he is a powerhouse champion and Zayn proved that he is likely only going to win if he can get away with a sneaky win. It doesn’t reveal anything new, but it doesn’t have to. It worked perfectly fine.

- Women’s Champion vs. Champion Non-Title Singles Match
Sasha Banks over Asuka
This result was to be expected and I anticipated it to be a great match and it was. These are two of the most technically savvy wrestlers in the WWE and it was on full display, I feel like the match could’ve lasted another 5 minutes and been even better. Sasha had the momentum last night and it carried her to victory. I don’t know what is going to happen within the next little bit, but I’m anxious to see these two defend their championships for a little while longer.

- Women’s 5-on-5 Elimination Tag Match
Team RAW over Team SmackDown
While there was a lot of different opportunities here, I think the route they went was perfectly fine. Lana was the only surviving performer in the match and it felt like she was going to have a big role in the match somehow. I really wanted her to showcase her ring skills, but that wasn’t the case. That really is the only thing I didn’t like about the match. Winning the match for her team only because she happened to be the last person available wasn’t ideal in my book, but it makes sense. Peyton Royce was the RAW MVP and Bianca Belair was the MVP of the entire match. Belair is going to be an absolute force in the WWE for many years to come and hopefully she gets that push sooner rather than later. I can easily envision Belair being the top of the Women’s Division within the next couple of years.

- Men’s Champion vs. Champion Non-Title Singles Match
Roman Reigns over Drew McIntyre *MATCH OF THE NIGHT*
Not only was this match of the night, it was match of the year and I don’t think it is even close. I was really excited to see this match and it lived up to every bit of build that it had. This is perfect proof that matches with full-time performers can be every bit as significant as big-name part-timers. I was anticipating a no contest with interference, but that wasn’t the case. Roman picked up the win with a little help from his cousin Jey Uso. I personally think that Roman winning in the fashion that he did was perfect. It maintained both of their momentum and it proved that Drew McIntyre didn’t get beat cleanly, therefore it is a possibility that he could’ve won under normal circumstances. This match was basically flawless and this is becoming a pattern for these two performers. We are truly watching two living legends.

- The Undertaker’s Farewell Ceremony
There was a lot of speculation that this may not have been the actual final farewell for The Undertaker, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. It looks like this is it for The Phenom. I didn’t really understand the point of having all of those former wrestlers step into the ring to only gather and not say a word, and I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that. Obviously, I wish there was some sort of live crowd and I feel like the fans were short-changed because of this, but they made the most out of crappy situation. It was a nice tribute to the man who has dedicated his life and career to wrestling and it is sad to finally come to the realization that he is officially done. His wrestling career may be over, but the legend of The Deadman will live on from here to eternity. Thank You Taker.
