AEW Full Gear (2020) Predictions
The next AEW PPV is coming up tonight and it will be the 2nd annual Full Gear event. This time last year, Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega put on an iconic performance in the Unsanctioned Light Out main event match and this is also where MJF turned heel against Cody. This year is obviously different as the crowds are limited and it is going to be held in Jacksonville, as have all AEW events since March. There is an advertised surprise guest and that is definitely interesting. Not to mention the fact that there are a lot of good matches on the card. Here are my predictions for Full Gear.
*Match Card is likely not in exact order
*Predicted winner are bolded
- Women’s Singles Match: NWA World Women’s Championship
Serena Deeb (C) vs. Allysin Kay
Serena Deeb has been on AEW programming quite a bit here lately, not to mention the fact that the NWA Women’s belt has been featured quite a bit lately. I haven’t ever really watched NWA programming before the pandemic and they haven’t really done much since, so it is difficult for me to give a proper explanation as to why I think one person would win over the other here. Deeb has only held the belt for an advertised 10 days, so I doubt she’ll drop the title. Allysin Kay is a former champ, and Deeb is a member of the AEW roster, not NWA. So, it could go a number of ways, but I think they’ll carry out Deeb’s reign past this PPV.
- Men’s Singles Match: AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament Final
Kenny Omega vs. “Hangman” Adam Page
The winner of this match moves on to face the AEW Champion at a later date and I think basically every fan saw this matchup coming from a mile away. Omega and Page should put on a solid match here and I think it definitely is a match that fans want to see. Omega has been on a different level here lately and I think he wins this match, no doubt. I don’t think it will be a squash, but I think Omega will have control of the match for the majority of the contest. I think Omega move on to face Moxley for the belt in the near future and it wouldn’t surprise me a bit to see him become champion in that future match. Omega has 1/5 odds, which is crazy considering who he is facing.
- Men’s Singles Match
Orange Cassidy vs. John Silver
This match was originally going to be featured in the Buy-In portion of the show, but it was announced that it moved up to the main card. Unless the Dark Order somehow interferes, I don’t see Orange Cassidy losing this match. He is currently a -950 favorite and as staggering as that number is, I honestly wouldn’t be afraid to put a small wager on John Silver with 5/1 odds.
- The Elite Deletion Match
Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara
It appears that we’re getting a rematch from the one at All Out and I hope that this match isn’t quite as scary. The match in September obviously didn’t go as planned, but I’m not really sure about the final result. Was Hardy supposed to win the match? That is the reason I think Sammy Guevara wins here. Hardy is currently the slight favorite, but I personally think it is a toss-up.
- Women’s Singles Match: AEW Women’s World Championship
Hikaru Shida (C) vs. Nyla Rose (with Vickie Guerrero)
Fans are growing irritated with the AEW Women’s division and the main reason is because they’re not utilized properly. If anything, they’re only featured in one match on a PPV and on a Dynamite show. It almost seems like the NWA Women’s division is featured more than AEW at this point and that is completely backwards. There are a lot of talented women on the roster, so I know that isn’t the problem. Nyla Rose is currently the underdog at +150 and that seems odd at this point. Nyla has been the most dominant part of the women’s division thus far and yet is an underdog. How? You could argue that Shida has obviously had a better run, and I would agree, but Shida doesn’t win in squashes that often to be honest. With Nyla, it is a squash win 95% of the time. Shida has been champion since May, but I think it ends tonight. Hopefully things get straightened out with the women’s division in the near future, because fans are losing interest.
- Men’s Singles Match
Chris Jericho vs. MJF (with Wardlow)
This has been the most entertaining part of AEW over the last couple of months and I don’t really think it ends here. They could stretch this story out for a while and I don’t think fans would care. MJF is at -300 favorite and I think the favorite picks up the win here. If MJF wins, he has a chance to join The Inner Circle, but joining a faction doesn’t really suit his style. I think he wins the match and declines. I’m excited to see the match, but to be honest, I wish this was for a title.
- Men’s Singles Match: TNT Championship
Cody (C) (with Arn Anderson) vs. Darby Allin
There is a lot of speculation surrounding this match. The advertised mystery special guest is likely to appear in this contest. The most speculated name is Sting. While many think that Sting will manage Darby Allin in the match, I personally don’t think that will be the case. If he does appear, it will be after the match. If Sting is cleared for in-ring action, I think he will face Cody for the belt. If he isn’t, I still think it would be very cool to see him on TV. I think this will be a great match and if Sting doesn’t show up, I will not be disappointed. Cody is a slight favorite in this match.
- Men’s Tag Team Match: AEW World Tag Team Championship
FTR (C) vs. The Young Bucks
I think there is a possibility that this may end up being the main event, but I guess we’ll find out tonight. FTR hasn’t held the belts for a long time, but I think that a two-month reign is an ample reign. If the Bucks fail to gain the belts tonight, they’ll never get another shot at the Tag Championship and a similar stipulation was held for Cody and the AEW World Championship this time last year. However, I think the circumstances are a lot different. The Young Bucks being held out of contention for the tag belts doesn’t make a bit of sense. The odds are split at the moment and I personally am in favor of The Young Bucks.
- Men’s “I Quit” Match: AEW World Championship
Jon Moxley (C) vs. Eddie Kingston
I’m not as interested in this match as I feel like I should be. Although there has been proper build and everything, it doesn’t feel like a main event match. Maybe it’s because I’m not really a big fan of Eddie Kingston, but I’ve never really let that sway my feelings on a match before. I think this has potential to be a really good match, but to be fair, nothing tells me that Eddie Kingston has a real shot to win. Moxley is a -700 favorite and that is quite a deficit for a main event PPV match for the world title. Not to say predictable wins can’t be interesting, but a lot of times they’re not. If they want to really shock the audience tonight, Kingston taking the belt would do exactly that, but would this be feasible moving forward? I don’t think so. Especially if you’re just putting him over for shock factor rather than his abilities.
