Song of the Day: O Tannenbaum
O Tannenbaum by……well to tell you the truth I’m not really sure and didn’t see it listed but it does sound like a choir of some sort. O Tannenbaum is the German version of Oh Christmas Tree and is the original version of the song as well. The English translation of the word Tannenbaum is fir tree. The song was written in 1824 in Leipzig, Germany by the organist and composer, Ernst Anschutz, and was based on a 16th century folk song “Ach Tannenbaum”. Fun fact about this song, Iowa, Michigan, Maryland and Florida all use the the tune of O Tannenbaum as the tune to their state song.
