AEW Power Rankings: Week of December 3rd 2020
STING IS BACK!!!!! I cannot believe The Icon Sting made his return to wrestling last night and there will be more on that later on, but what a show last night. There was a big title change and a lot of great action last night. I know I usually put out my AEW Power Rankings on Friday or Saturday, but I just couldn’t wait. Along with the Sting appearance and the title change, there was another piece of big news that was revealed at the end of the show. It appears that Impact Wrestling and AEW will have a working partnership, which is incredible news for the wrestling business. Things were getting interesting when AEW was coming into the scene, but this could be the turn of a new leaf for the business. It felt like such a significant night and AEW is looking great going into 2021. Here are the power rankings for last nights episode of Dynamite.
5: Britt Baker
Baker faced off against Leyla Hirsch last night and the match was pretty good. I see a lot of babyface potential in Hirsch and I think she could be a big performer in the near future, but last night, Baker got the win. The match wasn’t the big thing about the segment though, it was the brawl that happened after the match. Baker was attacked by Thunder Rosa and a brawl ensued. The Impact partnership could be big in other areas, but in the women’s division, it could be huge for AEW. There are a lot of talented women on the Impact roster and this could open up a lot more opportunities for both companies.
4: MJF/Orange Cassidy
The Dynamite Battle Royal opened the show and it was fine, but it was a battle royal. MJF and Orange Cassidy will face off next week on Dynamite for a chance to win the ring. Last year’s winner was MJF and looks to be the favorite to win it again, unless, someone interferes. My pick is for Cassidy to win next week, but I guess we’ll find out. It should be a great matchup.
3: Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin
Rhodes and Allin teamed up this week and took down the team of Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks. The match was really good, but what happened after the match was the most impactful part of the segment, but more on that later. Allin and Rhodes make a good team, but I don’t expect them to be a full-fledged team moving forward. Brian Cage and the rest of the FTW crew are a good opponent for them at the moment and I expect to see them in a match at the upcoming PPV.
2: Sting
I really wanted to rank him number one, but I couldn’t for obvious reasons. Sting is back and I can’t believe it. Ever since I have been a wrestling fan, Sting is one of the guys that I have liked and it was great to see him featured on Dynamite last night. AEW has had some Easter egg clues that led to the possibility of this happening, but it finally came to fruition last night. Granted, Sting is 61 years old. His best years are clearly behind him and I don’t know how he will be featured, but i’m excited to see him on AEW television.
1: Kenny Omega
Kenny Omega is the new AEW champion and while it wasn’t an ideal finish, it was the right finish considering the circumstances. Moxley had great run with the belt and I expected him to drop the title tonight. I really wanted this to happen at a PPV event, but I think it shows that AEW really cares about their fan base by putting this type of impactful content on a regularly scheduled TV show. Omega is the new champion and rightfully so, but I’m interested to see what is next for the champ. It was revealed that AEW and Impact are going to be working together in some capacity in the near future and Omega will make an appearance on Impact Tuesday night. It will be interesting it is will definitely be the first time in quite some time that I am going to be watching Impact Wrestling. The wrestling business just got a lot more interesting.
