AEW Power Rankings: Week of February 14th 2020
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. We’re going to treat you to another edition of the AEW Power Rankings. AEW picked up their 7th straight ratings win against NXT this week and I’d say expect an 8th straight next week as they inch another week closer to Revolution. Wednesday was one of their best shows in a while and we may see even better shows in the next two weeks. Here are my Power Rankings for this week.
- 5: Britt Baker
Dr. Baker is really proving me wrong and I’m glad to see it. When we started to see flashes of a heel turn from her, I was skeptical, but she has really embraced it. This week she delivered yet another great promo and she and Tony Schiavone have great chemistry together and I look forward to seeing more of Baker. One thing I dislike though is her similarities to Bayley in WWE and by that, I mean calling herself a role model. I think they could’ve did things a little different with Baker, but I guess we’ll see how it holds up.
- 4: MJF
MJF is red hot at the moment and he picked up a big win against Jungle Boy this week. They are going to try and give MJF as much momentum going into the PPV as possible and this week did just that. I can’t see MJF winning at Revolution, but he certainly will go into the show on fire. Another thing to mention, Wardlow and Cody are going to be in a steel cage match next week in Atlanta, so you don’t want to miss that next week.
- 3: Jon Moxley
Speaking of someone earning momentum going into Revolution, Moxley is doing that as well. Moxley picked up a main event win against Santana on Wednesday night, but he isn’t number one this week for a reason. The big win was overshadowed by the discovery of a new All Elite Wrestling member. Jeff Cobb is now with AEW and that is a big get for the company. We’ll see how Cobb is involved early on, but for now that was a pretty exciting part of the show.
- 2: Hangman Page and Kenny Omega
I had a feeling that they were going to have a short-lived title reign, they still could, but I thought they were going to drop the titles on Wednesday. They faced SCU and they successfully retained the titles. They kicked the show off and did a tremendous job. I’m starting to like this team, but I don’t think they’ll stick together for very long and we could even see them break up at Revolution. We’ll see I guess.
- 1: Nyla Rose
We have a new AEW Women’s World Champion. Nyla Rose defeated Riho in a wonderful match and it ends the first and only former title reign. With two weeks until the PPV, it will be interesting to see what they have lined up for the women’s division. The big problem I have with Nyla Rose as champ, and it isn’t a big problem, is the fact of building someone properly to defeat The Native Beast. They’ve built Rose as this unstoppable force and it will be difficult to believably build someone to defeat the newly crowned champ. Not a huge issue though, and I’m certain they’ll figure something out when the time comes.
