AEW Power Rankings: Week of February 6th 2020
Another week down and another week closer to Revolution. I saw some reaction to this show and I thought it was a decent show, but I wasn’t really blown away. A lot of people were speaking highly of it, but I felt like it was missing something personally. Nevertheless, they are finding their groove and it is showing each week in the ratings. We have 3 more weeks until Revolution and I’m excited to see it. Here are my rankings for this week.
- 5: Kip Sabian
The feud between Sabian and Joey Janela has been fine for what it is and this match was fine as well. It didn’t blow you away, but it didn’t have to. This seems like it will go to Revolution with a special stipulation attached to it and it could even go on further than that. We’ll see how it ends up.
- 4: Jon Moxley
Moxley has been by far the biggest star in the company since the start of the year, but he was slightly overshadowed last night. He defeated Ortiz in a singles match last night and after his victory, he damaged the eye of Ortiz’s tag team partner, Santana. This was an entertaining segment and it will be interesting to see where this feud with The Inner Circle and Moxley ends up.
- 3: The Butcher, The Blade, and The Lucha Bros
I personally thought that this was the best match of the night. Triple B and The Lucha Bros teamed up last night to face The Elite and emerged victorious. It was not only a big win for the two teams, but the rift between Hangman Page and the rest of The Elite is even more concerning. I’m curious to see what kind of match they’ll be involved in at Revolution.
- 2: Cody
The final two spots belong to the two main people involved in the main event segment of Dynamite. One of the stipulation that had to be agreed upon for the match at Revolution to happen between MJF and Cody was that Cody had to agree to take 10 lashes from MJF with a belt. It was a gruesome and painful segment, but it was an awesome way to promote a PPV match. Cody is the winner in the long run clearly, but MJF was the main victor of the night.
- 1: MJF
I don’t know if there is a single person in wrestling history that is legitimately more hated than MJF right now. That is saying a lot, but I think it is the case. MJF made his way to Busted Open Radio this week and had a verbal altercation, with the host of Busted Open, David LaGreca earlier in the week, but last night, he got even more heat. Making Cody endure that level of brutality is bad in itself, but MJF took things to a whole new level last night. Don’t expect MJF to get the last laugh in this feud, but for now he is the top guy of the week.
