AEW Revolution Results and Reaction
Revolution is over and the month of February is as well. Overall, last night’s show was another awesome outing from the folks at AEW. As I initially thought about it, I didn’t think it was the best show that they’ve put on, but judging on the scores that I have given the matches, I can’t really dispute that it wasn’t the best show in their history. It was well worth the price of the show. With that being said, there were a lot of things I liked, but also, some things I disliked about last night. I’ll break it all down for you from my prospective right here.
- Men’s Tag Team Match
The Dark Order over SoCal Uncensored
The only match of the Buy-In portion of the show was decent, but not great. Buy-In matches are capped to a certain extent and performers like this aren’t really suited for the kickoff portion, because it is mainly for performers that aren’t really well known to get a chance to showcase their skills. These two teams don’t fit in that category. it was interesting to see Colt Cabana make an appearance, but I don’t know what he has planned moving forward. The Exalted One wasn’t unveiled and I didn’t expect it, especially in the kickoff show. I’m interested to see who that might be, but staying on topic for the show, it was just an average match with a little bit of action.

- Men’s Singles Match
Jake Hager over Dustin Rhodes
I didn’t really expect to see this starting the show, but I liked what I saw from both competitors. I knew with the right time and circumstance that they could put on a decent showing and they did. It wasn’t a great match, but it didn’t have to be. Also, I didn’t expect for Hager’s wife to be a factor in the match, but it was a nice touch. Hager winning by a submission ref stoppage was a good move and it solidifies him as a dominant force for AEW. I want to see more from Hager and we could see him pushed into the AEW title picture in the near future, so that could be interesting.

- Men’s Singles Match
Darby Allin over Sammy Guevara
The result was predictable, but that didn’t matter. We didn’t know exactly what we were getting into with the in-ring action. It turned out to be a wonderful match. Darby Allin is the fastest rising talent in AEW and it shows. He can do very little wrong and Sammy Guevara was a wonderful compliment to Allin’s skills last night. I think we could honestly see these two having an AEW World title match in the next few years and it was cool to see a sneak peek of that yesterday. They had a plethora of wonderful spots, but my favorite was Guevara’s 630 table spot. Incredible.

- Men’s Tag Team Match: AEW World Tag Team Championship
Kenny Omega and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page (C) over The Young Bucks *Match of the Night*
Awesome, awesome match. I did not expect to see a successful title defense here, but again, that didn’t matter. These guys put on a show. It never stopped. The match went on for 30 minutes and the action did not slow down for a second. When AEW first started, they mentioned that tag team wrestling was going to be important and this further proved that point. I kinda thought that Hangman was going to turn on Omega, but it didn’t happen, yet. We’ll see when that happens, but I expect it to be in the near future.

- Women’s Singles Match: AEW Women’s World Championship
Nyla Rose (C) over Kris Statlander
I went into this match having a good level of expectations and I think they fell just short. I feel like Statlander and Rose didn’t have great chemistry and that’s fine. I hope that this won’t be a theme for Nyla’s title reign, because I expect Nyla to have a lengthy run with the title. The start of the match wasn’t good at all, but as they got further into the match, it turned around a little bit. I don’t know what is next for the women’s division, but they need to step their game up, because they’re falling behind if this is the best product that they have to offer.

- Men’s Singles Match
MJF (with Wardlow) over Cody (with Arn Anderson and Brandi Rhodes)
This match was very underwhelming in my opinion. I had huge expectations for the match and they fell way short in my opinion. First off, I don’t want to get hung up on this, but what in the world is Cody thinking with that stupid neck tattoo? I don’t have a problem with the tat itself, it’s more of the placement and the size of it. What was he thinking? Whatever, it’s his choice and that is my opinion, but I can’t really take him seriously anymore. Moving forward though, the ending was underwhelming with MJF pulling out his ring and using it as a weapon. It wouldn’t have bothered me that much, but based on the fact that they had a 25-minute match and punch from a ring decides it, it’s pretty stupid to me. Not to mention the fact that MJF was bleeding for the sake of bleeding. Bleeding for the sake of bleeding does absolutely nothing for me. I know people like to see blood, but you have to have a reason to draw blood, they did not, and it basically tarnished my opinion of the match moving forward and the worst part of it, I saw the ref drop the blade. The match doesn’t change my opinion of either competitor moving forward, but this wasn’t a good showing. I think if I went back and watched it, I would rate it better, but initial reaction tells me it wasn’t very good.

- Men’s Singles Match
Pac over Orange Cassidy (with Chuck Taylor and Trent)
It was a little surprising that this match went on so late, but I was perfectly fine with it. If you want to separate, best vs. most entertaining matches of the night, this was the most entertaining for sure. Orange Cassidy actually giving an effort is phenomenal. If you’re a wrestling fan, I don’t understand how you don’t enjoy Orange’s gimmick. It surprised me also that the match was as long as it was, especially knowing that Pac is a rather no-nonsense wrestler. I am hooked and I think the vast majority of AEW fans are hooked on Orange Cassidy and we want to see more of him.

- Men’s Singles Match: AEW World Championship
Jon Moxley over Chris Jericho (C)
I hate to not mark this as Match of the Night, but it had to be done. It was an extremely well-planned match and it showed. The time was perfect for Jericho to drop the title and Moxley was the perfect guy to take it from him. I have been all in on Moxley since he made his surprise appearance at Double or Nothing, last May and it was great to see him get the belt. This moment was for the fans of AEW and those who have been behind the product since day one, because Moxley is the perfect representation of those fans that are tired of a crappy wrestling product. Moving forward, I don’t know what is next for these two, but I do know that Fozzy is going on tour pretty soon, so we may see Jericho take a break for a little while. He’s more than earned it and what he has done for AEW so far cannot be duplicated. Let the Moxley era begin!
