Elimination Chamber 2020 Predictions
Elimination Chamber starts tonight and it is the last PPV until WrestleMania 36. The buildup for the show hasn’t been great, due to the fact that Super ShowDown was last Thursday. Nevertheless, it still should be a good show. There are no major titles on the line tonight, which is kind of a disappointment, but the matches have a good deal of potential. A lot of the contests seem fairly predictable, but hopefully we get enough intrigue to where it will provide a quality showing. Here are my predictions for tonight’s Elimination Chamber.
*predicted winners are bolded
*card is likely not in the exact order
- Men’s Singles Match
Andrade (C) vs. Humberto Carrillo
I think this will kick off the show and I think it is a good possibility that the US title changes hands tonight. Andrade has held the title for 72 days and for a good portion of this reign, he has been out of action. The duration of his reign seems to be pretty close to the average amount of days that a minor title reign lasts, especially within the last few years. A WrestleMania match between Carrillo and Angel Garza seems like something that could happen, but throwing Andrade and Rey Mysterio in the mix could be another possibility as well.
- Men’s Singles Match
Daniel Bryan vs. Drew Gulak
Bryan challenged Gulak to a match this week on SmackDown and I’m interested to see what goes down here. I have no doubts that Bryan will win this match, but it should be fun to see. Gulak was on 205 Live for a while and even enjoyed a good Cruiserweight title reign a few months ago. Their styles are pretty similar and Gulak working with someone like Daniel Bryan will give him a higher level of notoriety. No matter what happens, it will be a win for both competitors. It doesn’t appear that Bryan has any clear plans for WrestleMania, so we should get a better picture of that in the next week or two.
- Men’s Tag Team Match: RAW Tag Team Championship
The Street Profits (C) over Seth Rollins and Murphy
The Street Profits just claimed the RAW Tag Team Championships this week on RAW, so I doubt that they will lose them this early into their reign. Would it shock me? No, but it is clear that they want to push Ford and Dawkins and for good reason. They are talented and very entertaining, so taking the titles away from them I feel is a bad move. However, if they do lose the titles, I think AOP will have something to do with it.
- Men’s 3-on-1 Handicap Match: Intercontinental Championship
Braun Strowman (C) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro, and Sami Zayn
Handicap matches are a stupid way to book a title match, in my opinion, but I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that. I see what they’re trying to do, but it doesn’t work for me. They’re trying to accentuate the fact that Strowman is a strong force in the ring. Not that I think he isn’t, everybody already knows he is. The fact that this is Strowman’s first singles title in the WWE, I don’t really think he drops the title this early. Sami Zayn is going to be in action, in what seems to be quite a while. I looked it up and it looks like it will be his first match of 2020. The big question is, if Strowman loses, how do 3 competitors share a singles title? They won’t. Strowman for the win.
- Men’s Singles Match
Aleister Black vs. AJ Styles
This has Match of the Night potential written all over it. It is fairly unpredictable, but it seems like this will be a momentum boost for AJ Styles for his presumptive match with Undertaker at WrestleMania. Styles and Black’s first matchup was on RAW this week, ever. It will be interesting to see what they can do in a no-DQ PPV setting and it should be a fun contest. I think I personally would rather see Aleister Black face Undertaker at WrestleMania, but it isn’t up to me. We should get a solid match here, but expect to see The OC getting involved.
- Men’s Elimination Chamber Tag Team Match: SmackDown Tag Team Championship
The Miz and John Morrison (C) vs. Heavy Machinery vs. The Usos vs. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode vs. Lucha House Party vs. The New Day
This match is the most unpredictable of the night. It could go in a number of directions, but this should ultimately lead to Heavy Machinery winning the belts at WrestleMania, which is why I think Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode win the belts tonight. It is difficult to pick against Miz and Morrison in such a short reign, but I think the structure of the Elimination Chamber is one that is unforgiving to title reigns. Anything can happen and I think Roode and Ziggler take the titles and face Heavy Machinery at Mania. It should be a fun match, regardless of the outcome.
- Women’s Elimination Chamber Match: Winner Faces Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36 for the RAW Women’s Championship
Natalya vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Liv Morgan vs. Ruby Riott vs. Sarah Logan vs. Asuka
The inclusion of the Riott Squad’s feud is going to be a nice touch to the match, but all-in-all, it seems like a letdown already. I can’t see a scenario where this doesn’t end in a Baszler win. Other than Asuka, these women haven’t been anywhere close to a championship opportunity in a long time and probably won’t for quite a while. Ronda Rousey was spotted in Stamford Headquarters this week, so there is a slim possibility that she shows up, but not likely. On paper, this looks like an underwhelming main event, but I hope that they can go out there and put on a great match.
