WWE Power Rankings: Week of April 20th 2020
It was more of the same last week in WWE programming. We got to see a lot of Women’s MITB Ladder Match qualifiers last week and my rankings this week will reflect that. I think this week we will see more men’s qualifiers. News broke this week that the Money in the Bank matches will be filmed at WWE Headquarters and competitors will fight through 7 floors to find the briefcase. This is a very interesting concept and I think if it done right, it could be very entertaining. Here are the rankings for this week.
- 10: Daniel Bryan
To my knowledge, Bryan’s match with Cesaro was the only MITB Men’s Qualifier this week. Bryan picked up the win and I feel like he is a favorite in any match he enters, so look out for Bryan in the next couple of weeks. It is a shame that Cesaro hasn’t had any sort of glimpse at a major title since being on the main roster.
- 9: Nia Jax
Nia Jax will be in the MITB match in a couple of weeks. She beat Kairi Sane to get in the match and it looks like Jax will pick up right where she left off. She missed over a year of competition due to knee injuries, so watch out. Jax could win MITB
- 8: Finn Bálor
Bálor had the biggest week in NXT last week and it looks like he will be in a number one contender’s match against Velveteen Dream this week. Bálor and Dream should be a great one, but last week, he defeated Fabian Aichner of Imperium and he called out Dream. Big week for Bálor and it could be a nice run to the NXT title.
- 7: Tamina
After defeating Sasha Banks on SmackDown last week, she earned a shot at Bayley’s title. Although nobody would expect her to take the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank, it is nice seeing her get the opportunity.
- 6: Dana Brooke
Dana Brooke earned her way into the MITB ladder match by defeating Naomi last week on SmackDown. This was a huge win against a former champion. For the last year or more, I’ve wanted Dana Brooke to get a good push and we could be seeing that. She will face a lot of stiff competition in the ladder match, but if she’s in it, she has a chance.
- 5: Asuka
I feel like Asuka won the best match last week out of the women’s division. She beat Ruby Riott to earn a shot in the MITB ladder match. I feel like she could be the favorite in the match now. She has been featured a lot since the audience-less crowds and for good reason. She is one of the most talented competitors on the roster.
- 4: Aleister Black
Aleister and Oney Lorcan put on a wonderful match last Monday and Black picked up the win. I think he will have a shot tonight to earn a spot in the MITB ladder match and it wouldn’t surprise me if he won. Honestly, looking at the potential entries, I think he is my early pick to win. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
- 3: Sonya Deville
Sonya is the only person in the Top 10 that didn’t have a match last week, and that must be saying something. I think her character found a new layer and that is a wonderful thing for her. She called out Mandy Rose this week and I’m interested to see this feud play out. They have a chance to create something special.
- 2: Drew McIntyre
RAW main event was a champion vs. champion match and it was a good showing from both. It is a shame that McIntyre’s reign is getting tarnished by the pandemic, but he is making the most of it. He defeated Andrade last Monday and it revisited a feud back in NXT. It was a solid match. Seth Rollins also came in after the match to attack McIntyre, so I think they’ll have a match at the next PPV.
- 1: Big E
It is somewhat weird to see just Big E in the Top 10, but very odd to see him number 1. Well, everything in the world right now is odd, so it fits the bill. Big E put on a valiant effort and captured the SmackDown Tag Team Championships for The New Day in a Triple Threat match against The Miz and Jey Uso. For now, this will be the closest thing we get to a singles push for Big E. This is The New Day’s 8th tag title reign and they are very, very close to making tag team history, yet again.
